He sure was stumbling a lot over what to say in reply.

Where do you establish his lack of concern? Or is that also based on circumstantial bs like what kind of vehicle he doesn't drive? Stop using this yellow news organization for everything.

Yellow journalism, in short, is biased opinion masquerading as objective fact. Moreover, the practice of yellow journalism involved sensationalism, distorted stories, and misleading images for the sole purpose of boosting newspaper sales and exciting public opinion. It was particularly indicative of two papers founded and popularized in the late 19th century- The New York World, run by Joseph Pulitzer and The New York Journal, run by William Randolph Hearst.

Shuma doesn't like Fox News, so he likes to pretend that it isn't a valid source.

Interesting, he worked for a government agency and made several million dollars.

To be fair, for the longest time they weren't exactly a reliable or even remotely unbiased news source. To also be fair, they have corrected much of that. I do recall a study that showed listeners still automatically were more critical of a story that came from FOX than any other news source though, so it seems to be a case of not being able to get past their previous reputation.

March 2012:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/73408.html#ixzz1nlwKN38K “The Energy Department isn’t working to lower gasoline prices directly, Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday after a Republican lawmaker scolded him for his now-infamous 2008 comment that gas prices in the U.S. should be as high as in Europe.
Instead, DOE is working to promote alternatives such as biofuels and electric vehicles, Chu told House appropriators during a hearing on DOE’s budget.”

I believe his thinking is that higher gas prices might be what makes the average driver go with alternative fuels as opposed to the present Gasoline use. Sort of a financial cattle prod to get folks to shift away from fossil fuels. Not so clever.

Its effective use of market forces.
On a side note, Obama personally pressured Democratic Senate members to not support a bill passing the Keystone Pipeline this week.
Working hard on that gas price...

I was speaking of the stubborn backlash of American car owners not being happy with their present situation as we are in a massive recession still since the gov't does not like the "D" word.

Secretary Chu suggests the energy policy of the United States should be focused on forcing automakers to produce more expensive vehicles that get better mileage.
At least the trash you read is entertaining. Focusing on reducing gas consumption by increasing mandated fuel efficiency is not the same as being unconcerned with rising petroleum costs. Believing that the market will stabilize in price globally isn't really the tamany hall rich guy take on it, it's just not a populist soundbyte. It's also whats going to happen, so instead of whining about the evil mister secretary wringing his hands from the back of his tri-bike get behind the concepts of improved efficiency.

I would love to see a car that could go 1,000miles on say 10 or less gallons! Or a single re-charge.

They have those but solar cars suck.

The Defence Secretary has his own tactical nuke, still waiting for his C.C.W. permit though I believe.

Surely the US Energy Secretary is well aware of the trickle-down effects of gas prices on every good and service.
Are you really claiming that the fact that he doesn't own a car means that he doesn't care about gas prices? Can we only care about things that directly effect us in the immediate sense?

"Real-world experience" doesn't necessarily equate to talent you know. Plenty of executives have real-world experience... burning companies down to the ground and profiting off of their demise.
You know, just how it is claimed taht Romney made his living.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
