Ok this came up in a game I had center, two units (a and b) assault one unit (c), next game turn a dread charges one of the 2 enemy units, unit c is wiped out, a is not in base to base with any enemy model, b is in base to base with the dread, how do we treat unit a? Are they still in cc?

If it's possible to consolidate into base contact to continue the melee, you do so. Otherwise those units that cannot simply consolidate normally.

Juraigamer is right, but to clarify: unit A must (at the end of the combat) try to consolidate into base-to-base with the Dreadnought. If they cannot, then they just consolidate normally.
