I have my first WH40k tournament in years next month, and I've just been sat devising my list, and found that with Orks I can have an extortionate amount of models for this points cost, and it'll still pack a bloody good punch ( with luck).

The list comprises:

HQ:
Warboss; Power Klaw, Attack Squig, 'Eavy Armour, TL Shoota - 110pts

Elites:
4 Meganobz; Trukk 195pts

Troops:
30 Boyz; shootas - 180pts
20 boyz; choppas + sluggas. 2 big shootas. 1 Nob w/ Power Klaw - 165pts
25 Gretchin; 2 runtherds - 100pts

Total : 750pts on the dot.

I'm kinda worried that either the force will be utterly terrible and get wiped out every game by ordanance/blasts/flamers, or I'll be declared as that fricken guy for bringing a list with 80 models in it to a small points tournament.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions that would improve the force?

-Joe

Dump the truck and the meganobz. Every list will have something to take it out. Just get a min sized gretchin squad to walk onto the board.

Considering I just wrote a 1k list with 94 guardsmen in it, I would be perfectly fine playing another horde army. Of course, guys that bring heavy infantry lists aren't that common right now. I can see someone maybe complaining, but I don't think you're being a jerk. Besides, doesnt one of the big Ork lists just revolve around bringing as many boys as possible? You're orks, they should be prepared to fight large numbers.

Just remember that you've gotta move EACH AND EVERY ONE of those models each game, as well as set them up, and carry them between tables. If your tourney has a strict time limit, make sure you're practiced on moving them quickly and have a tray to move them between tables, or you will go insane before the first match is over.

I'd drop the Trukk too. Too easy to kill and with MegaNobz, a target for sure.

The best small point list I've run is the Killa Kan Horde. Here's a suggestion for 750 (exactly):

HQ: Big Mek (KFF, eA, GrotO, PowK)
Troops: 2 x 19 Boyz + Nob (eA, BossP, PK)
Heavy: 2 x 3 Killa Kans (Rokkit Launchas)

The Killa Kans get a 4+ cover from the KFF and the Boyz get a 4+ cover save from the Killa Kans. You stick the BM in the Boyz squads and make sure the Kans are with 6" to get the 4+. You then march across the board and beat face. If needed, the Kans can use the rokkits to kill tanks at range (the BS3 helps there). Alternately, you could run this as a shooty list, drop the BM's PK and put some rokkits in the boyz squads. Then same, you walk across and shoot up the enemy.

Good luck!

Haha all inf. lists can be a lot of fun if your opponent isn't prepared

I'm not too sure on time limits etc etc, but I have a tray to carry them round. Setting up may well be a problem...

General concensus - drop the meganobz. I was thinking of either taking more boyz, or something anti-tank, because if anyone brings armour, I will not be suitably prepared.

I think the Meganobz can be good, but in a battlewagon rather than a trukk. HEAPS more survivability. But in only a 750 point list, you're putting a lot of eggs in one basket.

20 slugga boyz = 120 + trukk

Yeah, a battlewagon would be a bit much in such a small game!

You can only put 12 boyz in a trukk!

I've decided on removing them in favour of a unit of Deffkoptas w/ TL Rokkit Launchas, I'm thinking it they might give me a chance to at least take out any armour anyone has brought, zero in on characters, or even tie a shooty unit up until my slow stuff gets there?

I don't own one at the moment! I'm probably gonna think about that when I get some Warbikers, it'd be good to have him leading a unit of bikers as extra protection from lascannons and other high strength/AP stuff haha

Make sure you have a PK in every squad. You need 12 regular attacks on the charge to kill a Marine. Without a PK, 20 Shoota Boyz have a decent chance to lose when charging a Tactical Squad.

Also, be aware that terrible matchups are possible. A standard 10 man squad of Blood Angels with a Sanguinary Priest for support dishes out 25 attacks at S5 I5, which will kill about 7 Boyz. You need 36 regular S3 attacks to kill a FNP Marine, so even with a PK, you lose badly, and you don't have much of a chance of getting the charge if your opponent isn't stupid.

And make sure you have a BP in every squad.....when it gets down to the line, that re-roll can be priceless.
