Blood Angel Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries
|
Ok, so I've been messing around with blood angels for a while now. I've painted about 2000 points in a very organic way... just painting whatever looked cool and sounded good, with no real emphasis on how they play in game.
Lo and behold... my army is crap.
So a re-write is in order; I have a core of units that I like and generally perform well. I also have some additional units that, while they look good, blow. Its time to trim the fat and get serious.
So here's the core:
HQ: Reclusiarch in termi armour
Elites: 5 x Terminators
Dedicated Transport: Landraider Crusader w/Multimelta
Elites: Sang Priest: Jump pack, power fist, plasma pistol (stupidly expensive but he looks PIMP so he stays).
Troop: Assault squad, 10 men, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon and plasma pistol on sarge.
Heavy: Dred w/Multimelta+storm bolter (blackreach model)
Heavy: Dred w/Multimelta+storm bolter (blackreach model)
thats 1160 pts by my count
Which leaves me with 840 to spend. Obviously I need another troop choice, I have TONS of tac marines, but no additional jump troops at the moment.
In regards to getting new stuff; I'm more than happy to expand my collection and get new models. But I'm not so keen on modifying the above options. As mentioned, theyre painted and finished. Either theyre in, or theyre out. No new upgrades for the dreds etc. (although extra weapon options for troops are always a possibility I suppose).
So what do we think? Any idea's?
PS. One last thing. I HATE SPAM. Lists that avoid that would be good.

Do the terminators have any equipment?
Beyond that I would think using those tac marines in some razorbacks would be a good addition.

termi's are plain boring blackreach models... no weapon upgrades (yet).
I was thinking of spending 30 points and strapping a cyclone to the back of one of them. That wouldn't be a major conversion, it would just involve painting the launcher prior to sticking it on.
Tacs and razors would be a good idea... but I don't see the synergy with the rest of the list there. If I'm going to re-write the list and paint another 1000 odd points of red goodness then I'd like the finished product to kick ass! DC is nice but you will find with only 1 other troop choice that objective missions will be hard. Going with what you have I would go get 2 more 10 man ASM squads with meltas and PF. I'd also get 2 more priests. I would put 1 with the termies and the other with the ASM's Run one priest with a JP. Thats 595 pts IIRC. I might spend the extra 145 on a squad of dvesa with ML's.
You can use the dreads and LR as cover for your marines to jump behind. The marines will act to cover your butt in case anyone tries to get at the rear armour. Once you get close jump the marines over for a charge and unload the LR. The Dev's are useful for cracking open any armour that the dreads, melta marines and LR can't get to.
I would do tac marines in razors as the ASM get a 35 point discount for taking a D. transport. That's a free upgrade to TL LC, TL Ass, or a Las/ Plas

Right, ok...Reclusiarch, I would drop this guy for a Librarian. The Librarian can take unleash rage which gives you preferred enemy, you can use this power in the opponent's assault phase too, so the Libby is better than the Reclusiarch straight away. Take shield of sangunius to give your units a 5+ cover save.
Terminators should be Assault Terminators and Land Raiders come in pairs for target saturation.
Priest, shouldn't have a power weapon as you never want in base contact and nor a plasma pistol in case things go wrong. You will probably want at least another Priest as well.
You obviously only have a single troop unit atm, Assault Squads are the way forward. I would get them in units of 5 and throw them inside Razorbacks, these can support the Land Raiders. Take meltagun on some squads and flamers and power weapon on the others.
Dreadnoughts are too short ranged and need Pods, if you take Pods they will not suit your list. I would drop these altogether and switch for Devastators with quad missile launchers.
With all that you should have a nasty and tough list. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm liking the librarian idea... I've found the Reclusiarch to be a bit gak. So that's definitely in.
I was fortunate enough to NOT glue the terminators arms on, so I'll replace those with TH/SS arms and make the squad assaulty. I have some magnets kicking about so they'll be swappable.
I agree that Assault Squads are the answer... but I really am not keen on razorbacks, I've never had any luck with them... much too squishy. I think my assault marines are going to come in 10 man squads and jump pack around all over the place. Keeping with the anti-spam feeling (but still keeping lots of assault marines on the table) I think each sergeant should be unique... should be fun to model and paint up. They're thus equipped differently, I'm sure I'll come up with some fluff in due course.
I've added the extra priests as recommended... again, each is unique.
Finally, and by no means least, I've given in to temptation and squeezed a small Death company squad in there. To deep strike and be sacrificed at my leisure.
Here's the latest revision of the list... what do you think??

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

IMHO I think you need to swap out your tac marines for Assault marines. Blood angels excel at close combat and putting a priest with a few of them only strengthens your game.

I would suggest putting a Chappie with the DC squad for hit and wound re-rolls, are the dreads going to foot-slog up the board? They really could use a pod at least. You could drop one of the priests, just keep the ass squads within 6" of the other 2 for FNP goodness. The DC squad doesn't need a priest, they get FNP anyway.

That /\
I like the new list, but I'm not a fan of PP on 1W models. I think you need some flamers in that one assault squad to help you deal with horde armies. The dreads are nice but as sub-zero said a furioso would be better. You could take 1 Furioso and one DC dread and they would make a nice blender for most things.

Still got problems with the latest list, dude. Single Land Raider is the only tank on the board and then you've got the Dreadnoughts which aren't exactly going to get into 2D6 range quickly, though you could target transports with them.
One Assault Squad has no special weapons, bad idea. If you're doing meltas you want a fist, or if you want to have different dudes a hammer. Flamer units should have a power weap or claw.
Priests never, ever have a special ccw. You never want them in combat.
I would drop the Land Raider and get another Terminator Assault Squad. You can deep strike these units.

I agree w/ mercer about the priests. They never should be in cc so its a waste of points giving them a pw. I've had great success with two each SR and dreads. One DC dread w/ talons and a furioso. I've played w/ the frag cannon and the two ccw versions and the jury is still out on which is better.
