Which list?

I'm torn between the two Space Marine lists, my gut says more troop choices is the essential thing, however missing out on the speedy bikes feels like a missed opportunity. Would welcome all of your opinions. Likely playing Necron or Space Wolves, so firepower is a must.

Chapter Master, lightening claw, combi-melta, Meltabombs

2x Dreads, Assault cannon

3x Combat squad, Plasma gun, Sergeant Plasma Pistol, Power weapon
Combat squad, Plasma gun, Sergeant Plasma Pistol, Power Fist

2x Typhoon Speeders

2x Razorback, TL Assault cannon
2x Lasback

2x Vindicator
Predator with las sponsons

Or

Chapter Master, lightening claw, combi-melta, Meltabombs

2x Dreads TL Last

2x Combat squad, Plasma gun, Sergeant Plasma Pistol, Power weapon
Combat squad, Plasma gun, Sergeant Plasma Pistol, Power Fist

Bike Squad w Attack Bike, Power Fist, Two Melta guns
Bike Squad w Attack Bike, Power weapon, Two Melta guns

3x Lasback

2x Vindicator
Predator with las sponsons

I imagine the speeders will either act as a distraction or get free reign to hunt, much like the fully melta'd bikes. But would you take a bucket load of Meltas over extra troops?

Thanks,

NW4NW

When I first read "Chapter Master", I know that both of these lists are going to bad.

Then I see you are giving special weapons to tac combat squad which is not allowed.

These lists need a lot of changes, I suggest you read up a bit on other lists either here or online to see what you are missing out on.

Short list of things to change
- Never take chapter master (he is the worst HQ)
- Never take Plasma pistol on Tac Sgt
- Don't take bike squads unless you are going all bikes (they don't live long enough with too few models).
- Lasback => LasPlas back
- Under 2000 pts, always take TLAC TLAC Dreads.

First list, though it's illegal. Units of 5 Marines (Combat Squads) cannot take any special weapons, so no plasma guns.

I would firstly drop the C.M as he's plain rubbish. Librarian is the best way to go as can support your army better.

Dreadnoughts, I think the assault cannons are perhaps too short ranged. I would consider dropping them and perhaps using something else.

The Typhoons are fine as is your heavy support choices, which either you take.

Hope that helps.

Btw - bike squads are fine. They turbo boost and get a 3+ cover save and will be in melta range turn 2. You can just take attack bikes only and get 2 wounds on them.

First, plasma pistol and power fist on a Sergeant is a waste of points; you don't want your Tactical Squads to be getting anywhere near the enemy if possible. Second, your Troops choices are illegal; Tactical Squads have to have 10 models before you can take a heavy or special weapon under the current Codex.

You kind of need to rebuild the entire list from the ground up here; but consider that Land Speeders are cheaper, tougher, and have similar firepower to bike units.

Thanks guys, obviously I missed some crucial details when I decided to leave the DA codex and go Vanilla.

I'll go back to the drawing board and resubmit.

Cheers,
