Hi,

This came up a few times whiling playing a game with my Necron CCbarge.

I've been told that fast skimmers can only move in a straight lilne when the move flat out. Is this true?
I know that the FAQ says somewhere that to claim the cover of turboboost you must be atleast 18" aware from the original point you where standing.

I'm sure this will be a quick issue to resolve. Thanks!

It's not true.
And for Flat-Out you don't have to be over 18" from your starting point. That's Turbo-Boost only (bike rule).

Flat out /= Turboboost. One requires a displacement, the other doesnt, and NEITHER requires you to move in a straight line

Displacement also determines what roll you need to hit a vehicle in assault.

And yet I've had GW staff (and other FLGS staff) claim that you must move straight ahead... and in addition state that Jetbikes using Turboboost can't go over terrain either.

Luckily a careful reading of the rules disproved it conclusively. :-)

Turboboosting allows a bike to go 24" however, it has to move more than 18" for a cover save. A bike that goes 14" for example is turboboosting but does not confer a cover save.

For the Command Barge, it follows the "flat-out" rules for "Fast" vehicles and confers a 4+ cover save if it moves more than 12".

As for moving in a straight line, I know Dark Eldar bikes that want to use the bloodvane, grav talon or caltrop maneuver do have to turbo-boost in a straight line but not sure about any other bikes.

This isn't actually correct. The bladevane rules mean that you have to draw your line between the start and endpoints of the move, but don't actually restrict the movement of the unit. They could move in an arc if they wanted to for some reason.

generally speaking the bladevanes are done after your move, as long as you pass over a unit. going "straight" never really factors in, although the FAQ suggests drawing a line from start to finish and a unit under the line is hit.

the group i play in handles it a touch more loosley, mind we also arent d$%^s about if a unit gets hit or not, or how many hit etc and so on. as long as models dont move further then they can, we just go with it.

and as above, nothing states fast vehicles going flatout have to go straight, neither for bikes turboboosting, although i think normal bikes have to avoid terrain? not 100% sure though.

Bladevanes are indeed done after you move, and per the FAQ you have to draw a straight line between the beginning and end points of the move.

Bikes turboboosting are required to finish their move at least 18" from where they started if they want to claim the cover save. And yes, they can't move through terrain while turboing.
