So both in fluff and game terms who wins.

For game terms, treat each as using his own rules system. For purposes of saves treat Abbadon as ignoring his saves, but Archaon using fantasy save modifiers.

Archaon would win, mostly because Abbadon is an armless failure.

Archaon lost to an Orc, sure he's the hardest, most badass black orc in existence, but he still got knocked out by one.

But by stats, I'd have to go with Abbadons Beatstick powers, if only for the potential 10 attacks at S8 per turn with rerolls

Archaon all day long. He is one of the most powerful characters (stats-wise) in WFB. He'd wreck ass on Abaddon.

Archeron rides a horse. Abbaddon rides a land raider. No contest.

+1 to this.

To be fair, Abaddon gets a bad rap largely because of the fluff writers, NOT because of his prowess. Honestly people, do you really think GW will actually let Abaddon take Cadia? Heck, do you really think GW will let Chaos win any sort of major battle in the current “pro IoM”, comic book fluff environment?

Personally I hope 6th edition restores the “balance of power” with some new fluff pieces that portray chaos in a better light.

I like to think that they would be locked in combat forever, swords grinding against each other as the Drak Gods watch.

The Emperor of Mankind, in his fighting prime, also was nearly strangled by an Ork (save for the intervention of Horus). Only Horus and Emperor combined, were able to drive off the greenskin.

Abbadon for the win. In game terms, having a fantasy armor modifier would end up hurting so much. What is the negative for being hit with str 8? And come on, Abbadon has wont he favor of all four chaos gods. At the same time. If some one in real life could do that with the middle east, BAM!! World peace. Not to mention after bile cloned Horus, It was Abbadon who killed him, lets not forget that Abbadon can actually control a massive chaos army. That in its self seems impossible.

Quite the opposite. Noone can beat anyone always in 40K. Any given match-up, Ork Boy vs. the Emperor and the greatest of Primarchs, Gretchin vs. C'Tan, Space Marine vs. Chaos God, Maugan Ra vs. an entire goddamn Hive Fleet making planetfall, etc.., can result in any and all possible outcomes depending on the whims of narrative, fun and an author's random musings.. It's the nature of 40K.

Abaddon's flagship is the Planet Killer. I'm fairly certain Archaon has nothing that can stand up to that.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Archaon would whoop up on Abbadon.... bad. He's got a 3+ ward save, His sword is Skulltaker who's been imprisoned, 10 attacks, higher weapon skill & initiative and strength 5 with a power weapon.

Also, his horse is faster than a Landraider

BTW, this is a one on one basis so Land Raiders are out. Planet killers out. However the horse is allowed.

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

Here's how I'm doing this...
-------------------------------------------------------

Archaon reigned his steed around for another charge, locking eyes with his enemy once more. This particular opponent (the field around them was a surging maelstrom of his Everchosen clashing with 8ft tall warriors bristling with guns and toothed blades) stood about 11ft tall, with a daemon sword similar to Archaon's in one hand, and a massive claw that crackled with energy in the other. The opponent grinned, revealing a mouth brimming with razor sharp teeth, before calling out to taunt his rival.

"You cannot win Archaon! You may have crushed armies beneath your worthless donkey's hooves, but I - Chosen of all four Gods - have crushed entire worlds beneath my heel!"

Archaon laughed harshly. "Like Cadia?" he replied, knowing that this would provoke a response from the rage-driven Abaddon.

Abaddon roared in anger, and began to run towards Archaon, the speed of the action alarming even to the seasoned warrior that Archaon was. He goaded his horse onwards, and held out his sword ahead of him, prepared to swing the blade down and split his opponents head in twain.

The conflicting warriors of the Gods had parted around the duellists, a large circle formed to give these leaders a chance of earning the Gods' glories. It was in the centre of this circle that Archaon and Abbadon clashed. Archaon swung his sword down towards Abbadon's skull, only to be deflected by Drach'nyen, the howls of the daemons locked inside the respective weapons ringing out louder than the clash of the swords. A moment later, Abbadon brought up his lightning claw, tearing into the corrupted flesh of Archaon's horse, firing point blank with his stormbolter directly into its flank.

The duellists parted, Archaon diving off of his horse as it fell, rolling on the ground and jumping to his feet almost immediately. Abbadon turned to face him, Drach'nyen burning with rage, and the Talon of Horus dripping dark blood. The aggressors ran at each other again, Abbadon with more momentum thanks to his terminator armour. "More momentum making him slower to stop..." thought Archaon as he sprinted towards his quarry.

Again the duellists clashed at the centre of the circle. Archaon dodged a swipe from the Talon, parried drach'nyen with his own blade, and with another powerful, yet fluid motion, smashed his shield into Abbadon's face. Abbadon, caught up in the augmented sprint he had run with, had his upper body knocked backwards as his lower body sailed on. Archaon sidestepped, and raked Abaddon across the chest with his Daemonblade. The Chosen of the Four Gods fell, and the battle paused, as every eye watched intently upon the outcome of the duel.

...

Abaddon opened his eyes, realising that he must have blacked out for a few minutes or so. craning his neck to look over his armour's bulk, his chin was instantly met by the tip of Archaon's blade, pointed directly at his jugular. Abaddon remained still, staring straight into Archaon's helm visor, waiting for the deathblow to come.

"You have fought well Abaddon, Chosen of the Gods." Archaon sheathed his sword and took a step back. "I have bested you." His tone was factual, not accusational.

Abaddon dragged himself to his feet. "What are you waiting for Archaon?! You beat me in battle! KILL ME!"

"Aye, I did, Abaddon." Archaon began to walk away slowly. "But we both know that your loss to the Gods would be......... detrimental, to the cause."

Archaon looked towards the stars, and threw his arms out wide in that direction. "There are Empires to be crushed, lands to be burned." He turned to Abaddon once more. "Planets to crush under our heels."

If Abaddon could see Archaon's face, he could have sworn that the Everchosen of Chaos was grinning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

So, yep, Archaon won, but they are both invaluable to chaos' advances upon the material realm.

Many and varied forces in progress according to waxing & waning whims.

Think about it in fluff terms. Abaddon is basically a walking tank. Not to mention the fact that he could just shoot Archaon long before they even reached each other. Abaddon would probably win, though the gods would likely just give them both immortality before the fight began.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

Archaon has a 3+ ward, can cast spells, has a ridiculous Daemon sword (Which to be fair, so does Abbaddon), and tons of other skills. He's worth, fantasy wise, upwards of 700 points.

I don't care that Abbaddon has terminator armor, Archaon has and will always wreck face.
