Well, nobody has seen it and details are scarce and could be false.
But the general idea is that the Chaos Space Marine Codex covers the generic latecomer troops like the Red Corsairs and will stay. And that the Chaos Legions Codex will cover the old Legions like Death Guard, Alpha Legion, Thousand Sons, Emperors Children etc. with much more specialized rules, a.o. Alpha Legion having the option of non-power-armoured troops like those included in the next starter. Was planned just after the release of the CSM Codex, because even the developers found it too simple (the old one was too complicated) to recreate the full flavour of the specialized Chaos SM troops.

I dont believe the rumor of non-power armor troops in the legion book, just throwing it out there.

Fair enough. However it seems likely to me they'll put cultists in as cheaper, weaker counterparts to SM scouts.

I'd have thought they'd be more like IG blobs for holding objectives. It'd be nice to have a Chaos unit that wasn't fearless, anyway.

Assuming certain rumors I hope are true really are, we'll be seeing the cultists/traitor/renegade guardsmen in the Chaos Renegades book, which is supposed to be the evolution of the current Chaos Marine book (supposed to look more like a lost in the damned list from way back when, but with a greater emphasis on Marines than previously)

Basic Chaos Space Marines aren't fearless.

Is there supposed to be like 2 different books? Like Legions and Renegades?

I would love a new version of L&tD. But alas, I think that's not going to happen.

I believe the current rumour is that a new Legions book will be released, but the current codex will still be legal, used for Renegade armies. Doubt many would use it though.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

As I understood it the rumor is the new book will be Legions, and the current book will still be legal, but its next iteration will be Chaos Renegades instead (and again, be more LatD-esque).

I hope this means that GW will be opening the fluff again for Renegade chapters/groups who aren't quite so Saturday-Morning-Villain. I remember the Night Lords for a time being portrayed as "We're pissed off with the Imperium/Emperor, but we think you Chaos guys are dicks too", and got the impression there used to be more of that around the fluff than there is currently. It's something I'd be interested in seeing.

It works like this:
Attention-seeker pretends to have insider knowledge. Sheeple believe him.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

pretty much.
It's going to give more detailed rules for playing the original traitor legions. If it ever comes out. That's all anyone knows.

Imperial Armor 5, 6, and 7 have some interesting rules for playing Chaos with renegade IG forces. They're similar what Joey is talking about, above. You can have blob squads, rabbles/zombies/cultists, and Ogre variants, just to name a few example.

I'd like to see some version of that, along with much more detailed Legion Rules, as I found the IA5, 6, and 7 armies to be lacking.

We shall see.

I believe Hastings that there will be non-power armour Chaos troops in the starter box (cultists or Traitor Guard) and I believe that GW will soon make the starter box army legal.
