hi, i bought a few fw things on ebay from a man in hong kong and the quality of them is not so great and i was just wondering if you could tell if they are recast?

Do you have any pictures of what you bought? And if the guy you bought from has loads of the same items for sale then you might want to think about letting ebay and FW know.

In my eBay experience, I have found a very simple and easy test to determine if something is counterfeit:

1. Did it come from Hong Kong?
2. If yes, then the item is counterfeit.

End of test.

It's probably counterfeit. There are a number of sellers in Hong Kong and Russia who sell counterfeit FW stuff on ebay.

yes, i have pics... i did think about letting fw know.... and yes he has tons of the same items for sale.
the quality is just so... low...
so let me know if i should let ebay and fw know..
i compared it to my fw ultramarines dread and it just didnt seem right.

Why do I get the sinking feeling that the OP knew this was gonna be a recast fom the beginning?

I personally can't see what the problem is - nothing seems to stand out especially. It may be more apparrent in real life however?

Yeah, I had. Feeling alright. The sad thing is I bought it from mamabigbig..... So I got screwed out of some money. But I did report something to eBay about him/her. And I posted on forge worlds favbook about it cause they never answer m emails. So thanks for letting me know. I knew it just didn't sit right with me. Oh well. I learned my lesson.

Nothing wrong with those minis, look just like my FW dreads (and I have both).
What was the price?

That's mine and I got it direct from FW, it looks the same - the arm parts on the FW GK dread is a bit weird, I actually had to cut it down so that the arms fit properly on the torso :s
But looking at the two it looks identical.

Especially as the GK dread doesn't have specific arms with it, alot of the alternate fw arms require you to shave down the resin-pin like bit.

Usually if the item is a little too cheaper, then it could be a recast

Check location of seller helps (russia, china, etc)

Thats the thing, the recast IS BETTER.

the person has been selling the same dreads for a couple months, and all for about $40-50, which doesnt sound right...
They have like 4 sets of arms with them which is ridiculous.

That price really doesn't sound right, 27 pound for a toreso/main piece of the GK dread and 8 pound per arm, about 43pounds total should come to more then what your paying in dollars by a good bit, at least at retail price.

I wouldn't be so sure to call these recasts. FW has been farming out manufacturing to Chinese factories, I've bought items that said they were made there. Typical MO for a Chinese manufacturing firm is to use a customer's molds and dies to churn out as many of a product as they can.
Say FW contracts for 100,000 units of GK dreadnoughts but Chinacorp makes 110,000 units. Forgeworld gets the quantity they expected and the rest end up in a black market somewhere. This happens often with reproduction auto parts and it would be my guess here as well

Supposedly the manufacturing in China has been pulled for awhile now.

That doesn't mean you won't still get pieces which will say they were "Made in China" as FW does have to maintain a relatively high stock level and they don't cast things up to order.
