so i know i need a right and left side twin linked autocannon setup for this. but wasnt this also known as the mortis dreadnought in imperial armor?

So if im going to need 4 of these dreads should i go with aobr bodies , ven dread kits, or reg dread kits.
The aobrs are like 18 bucks each with shipping, dreads and ven dreads are 40 with shipping.
After pricing out the bits needed it would cost me the same amount to buy forgeworld arms as it would to make my own so the FW mortis arms are the ones im gonna use.

If you want forgeworld-esque arms with out the price tag.

http://www.shapeways.com/model/414990/

$10 gets you 2 arms

I have 2 ven dreads and a furioso I converted into a grey knight dreads, the arms don't fit on the pegs so I shaved the pegs and glued em on, when am I ever going to want a dread arm that's not an autocannon? I was told by others though that it is the AoBR size arm... I don't know for sure but what I do know is the forge world arms won't fit your dread nice and snug if you are using an AoBR Dread you'd have to glue them on.

The print lines weren't bad on mine but YMMV.. Paint did adhere to it a little funny and i had to use good quantity of badab black to make it not SUPER SHINEY!

Here are some pictures:

If you need 4 dreadnoughts it would be $40 before shipping. That is 8 arms. They are a 3d model print so they are made I suppose by shapeways? Main thing to remember is they are printed not molded so it has inherently different pros and cons than like resin or plastic you are use to. And I suppose if you are good in 3D CAD like programs you could make it any way you like but that is way beyond my skill set.

Here is a video on how the whole process works (around about 1:30 they show the printer in action):

There are several materials available but the list I put up only has SWF (Strong White Flexible.)

Don't let the word "Flexible" fool you, my main complaint is they are pretty brittle. Also please note I do not work for them or am in any way affiliated.

My order date was December 31st, 2011
Delivered On Tuesday, 01/10/2012 at 12:57 P.M. via UPS - (UPS Transit time was 1 day so it took them 9 days to print but you also see when I ordered)

They were $8.74 when I first ordered

Here is a copy of my invoice (with out my personal data):
Spoiler:
3 x Autocannon arms v0.5
Scale: 100%
6.00 x 5.30 x 1.80 cm
White Strong & Flexible
$26.22

Subtotal $26.22
Shipping $6.50
Sales Tax (0%) $0.00
Total $32.72

Order date 12-31-2011
Payment status

Pros:
Cost, Shiptime, look, ease of cleaning up with basic hobby supplies (knife/file/sandpaper/simplegeen/soap/water)
Cons:
Print lines (not really bad but again that is on a print by print basis), A little brittle, the way paint takes to it, the shipping was a little steep not horrible though.

Again these are my observations, YMMV.

Edit:

I'm no math wiz but 14 euros = 18.2448 US dollars (on 3/14/2012 or click the link below for the current conversion rate.)

I was looking at those too originally but 3 things scared me away:
*Overseas shipping
*Rumors of poor cast quality on here
*They didn't look like "normal" dreadnought arms

i mean... the dreads would cost me 30 bucks each meaning the aobr and the arm set.. thats cheap for an army that needs 4 dreads. 20 tac marines with ml, plasmagun and nothing special on the sgt.. hell i can aobr about half my army.

The official Imperial designation is the Mortis. Everyone calls them Riflemen because we've somehow been indoctrinated by FASA in a more enduring way than by GW

I got a set of the FW arms, and I would not say they were worth the money. The flash was pretty bad, and the barrels were bent on one of the arms. It also took a long time to make the trip over the pond. I need to make a few more myself, and I was thinking of going with the Shapeways ones.

Just my experience...
