The story is that our local gaming club got an offer from a gaming store that if we provide a Titan for apocalypse game on Tuesday (6th Dec) then our club will get some founds for new tables and terrain from the store. We had only 2 weeks (basically 2 weekends as me and my buddy both work and he also has phd related university stuff to attend to) and we accepted the challenge. Long story short - 4 days cutting/gluing, 4h painting, wonderful support from our GFs and here it is.

Crew (in order of relevance):

Mary - definitely better half of me . The Titan would not have so much details if it wasn't for her effort we woldn't have time to do parts like eagle or vents. Pictures are her work too.
Marta - better half of Filoot. Her part was logistics and making leg hydraulics.
Filoot - did most of the base parts and provided a lot of material. It was his idea in the first place.
Uriel - shopping and cutting some circles out of plasticard.
Me - Some parts and gluing it all together. Also mine airbrush came out handy to paint the beast

PS. "Vulgaris Magistralis" means "Common Master"

PS2. Constructive criticism welcomed

I think I've seen more scratch built titans online than forge world ones.

It's a lot more fun to build one! I recommend trying
This one didn't came out like the FW one (especially detail-wise) but in that small amount of time we were very satisfied with it.
We even plan to build another one - just to have the opportunity to work on the details this time. And a ork bomma (but you didn't hear it from me )

Thats friggin awesome, I really like the hazard lines.
Just out of curiosity though, what did you use for your materials? Im going to be building one very soon so if you could give some tips too that'd be great.

Well - as we had to think about time we targeted simple materials:
- basic parts were done from plasticard HIPS PCV 1.5 mm - this allowed us to build whole solids by cutting whole meshes and then just half cut edges and bend them (that's why you can see small gaps where planes are connected - we've tried to fill it with epoxy putty but didn't have time).
- details and embossed parts are done from 0.25 - 0.5 plasticard - you can easly cut it like paper - Mary did the eagle herself in below 5 minutes.
- thick parts like the ones with hazard stripes on the shoulders were made from foamed PCV 3 mm - you can cut it like butter with a normal blade - very convenient material but sometimes you have to file part edges to make it look better. It is very light and can be used to improve model stiffness attached inside solids.
- machine gun barrels and other pipes were done from normal PCV pipes of different radius that can be bought in standard hydraulics shop/castorama/obi/walmart (I think ) etc. It is rather hard material so I recommend using a power tool like Dremel - we didn't have one where we were building it and I can say - you don't want to cut this with a modeller knife 16 times in a row ;(
- hydraulics were made from lollipop sticks and paper - you take the round stick and a piece of standard office paper and glue long stripe of paper to the stick allowing it to form thicker pipe on part of it
- round leg (and arms - but you can't see them) joints were made from rubber washing machine drain pipe - filled with plasticine to increase stiffness and weight with some PCV circle attached on each side of it.
- old and broken kitchen strainer was used to make vents
- to provide more details in short time we've shallow lines in various places (shoulders, leg plates) - they look really great when filled with a proper wash.
- some wire was used to make the horizontal lines but they didn't came out too straight so maybe it would be better to use Plastruct's plastic rods or similar material for that.

Whole construction is 100% scratch build - we didn't use any existing part

As for the painting stage:
- use airbrush - this frigging thing IS LARGE
- as it is large you can skip some details - most people will look at it from grater distances anyhow
- we based the thing black with a standard acrylic paint from an artist shop - beware - as PCV is very slip you have to put more layers of the paint to make it stick.
- the grey highlight was also made using a standard paint - great choice as you don't have to sell your kidney to afford that quantity of paint
- hazard stripes were first painted as yellow lines with citadel paint - it is a nightmare - we've gave up after 4th layer of paint as we couldn't get even near the proper colour coverage. We've switched to an old citadel paint (in those bigger bottles that were available like 10 years ago ) I've found in my attic and after all those years it worked great. then some Tamiya masking tape (6mm) and chaos black cover.
- weathering was done with MIG Production Dark Wash - I love this stuff - it is totally different from Citadel washes - it's oil based and has great flow. Also Brown Wash from MIG was used on yellow and metallic surfaces.

The best tip that I can give you all is that it will be a lot of hard work - even a simple version like ours:
- don't work alone - it will get depressive as you won't see the end of the work. We thought that we won't finish - after 3 days of gluing and cutting ~10h each day we had only few plastic parts - it didn't reassemble anything. Then on fourth day we glued them together and were in shock - it was only 5-6 more hours of work and about 3-4 hours of paining to have this finished.
- plan ahead -know what you want to accomplish and stick to the plan. eg. if you want riveting - have needed rivets ready before you get to this part - we would have a problem with vents but fortunately Marta had a broken strainer
- try to have every obvious material in house before starting - if you want to use 1.5 HIPS - buy few sheets before as some smaller shops have tendency to get out of stock very quickly etc.
- if you didn't build anything that big before try to make a simple version (like ours) first - get the experience and have a plan of making another one better in the future - after you use it in a apoc battle you will want to have more of them

Hope that helps a little
Good luck with the project!

Oh one other thing - use super glue only on parts that won't be visible - it tends to leave rugged surface near the gluing point if you do it quickly. We've used "Liquid Poly" plastic glue from Humbrol to attach parts that need to look good.

Impressive for a rushed job. I'm excited to see what you (singular or plural) knock out when you aren't on a tight schedule.
