So, I am sick of paying GW's ludicrous prices to build an army (I have spent about £120 and I have around 600pts) so I'm thinking of moving to a skirmish scale game. Infinity looks AWESOME! If I do start, it will be with the Japanese Sectorial Army.
A few questions -
1. How popular is it in the UK? (no point in starting if there are only 4 players)
2. Are there stores that stock the models?
3. What are some general tips and tricks with the Japanese Army?
Many thanks.

1) Reasonably. It's pretty easy to popularise though - just start showing people the very pretty models, then make sure you mention how much cheaper and better balanced it is than GW's games.
2) Most of the standard online retailers stock it and often with the standard discounts over RRP. Finding it on the shelves really depends on the nature of your local game store(s).
3) Sorry, I can't help with this one. I've not got the required experience to give anything approaching good advice.

Yeah, video game reference. I'm in the middle of nowhere, half way between Scunthorpe and Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

According to the player database there's someone in Boston.

It's a biblical reference, by the way.

3. What are some general tips and tricks with the Japanese Army?
DON'T
Sectorial armies are thematic subforces of the main factions, more aimed at already experienced players. Veteran players will disencourage a new player to start with a sectorial for the next reasons:
-Sectorial forces limit your choices and are more focused at a given gameplay style.
-Sectorial forces make use of the special advanced rule "Linked Teams: Fireteams". In order to master that rule the player is required to have a good grasp of the full rule setting.
The Japanese Sectorial Army is a sectorial of the YuJing faction. I encourage you to start with the YuJIng generic list first. The reasons to start with a generic faction list are:
-You have access to all the troops in all the sectorials of that faction but also you have access to troops of that faction that currently don't belong to any sectorial.
-Given the wide range of troops, generic faction lists are very flexible and able to adapt to your chosen/desired playing style. Also you can try each of that faction's units and find which ones you find more comfortable playing with and so find your favored playing style. Also such variety of choices means the new player'll be able to find the right tool to face any given trouble he/she enconters during his/her learning process.
-You don't have to bother about the fireteams rule.
The game has a step learning curve, so take things easy and don't try to rush. Also this game is about player's own experience and tactics, no matter how many advices you're given, list building has only minor effect and in the end it's you and a little of dice luck who must pull out the right tactics in order to achieve the victory.
By the way. at moment forget CC. This game is about shotting and ranged combat. Even if you're told that YuJIng is the CC faction and Japanese and Caledonian sectorials are CC beasts, don't expect to be launching charges through the battlefield like with your khorne berzerkers/tyranids in 40k. That's not going to happen.

Then it appears that said video game made a reference to the bible...
Boston isn't exactly local for me, but thanks anyway.
Ok then, if a team of techno-samurai aren't the best army to start with, what is? Is there a "beginners faction" in the same sense that SM are for 40k?

Start what ever you want, just don't use linked team to start. My first army was sectorial, why becouse I liked the model the most. What did I give up CH: TO and AD, what I get lots of Sin-Eaters, Prowlers, and Zeros. If you go sectoral just find your strengths and play to them.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

This, just don't limit yourself to the sectorial if you start to feel a pinch tactically against a certain threat. Break out to the basic Yu-Jing to get some experiance with them at that point, then drop down to your sectorial gain and see if you ca find a way to make up for the short coming.

Cheers for the advice. Out of curiosity, what is the Knightly Order Sectorial like?
