Heya. Ive been sculpting up the Rage demon we discussed a while back, and will start up on that Giger demon soon. Thanks again for all your feedback. The sculpting is happening fairly quickly and things are looking nice. I will keep you posted with WIP shots.
Here is some new art for another mini I hope to do in the future. Go ahead and let me know what you think. If anyone is curious as to how I make this concept art: I do up a real quick model in Mudbox to get the most basic proportions, screencap it and paint over those in Photoshop using a Cintiq. This gives the art a hand-painted look. This is my fave way to do concept illustration these days, but I always end up going back to the paper-pencil.
- Any ideas for weapons or weapons options are most welcome. This is an area where I struggle with while designing most of my minis, because it is so hard to make everyone happy. I will most certainly be offering more than one weapon with this kit.
- I know for sure that he will be fairly huge, and since he is VERY center-heavy I should be able to put him on a relativity small base without the model becoming "tippy". His smallest base size would be 50mm square, making him very playable and versatile.
- I also know that he will not have any clothing or metal armor. His version of "demorganic" armor is such that his skin becomes so mold ridden and necrotic that is begins to harden and calcify into bubbly shapes. Mouths have also sprouted open, and I might fit some more eyes in his skin as well.
Other than that, it is up for grabs. I would love to hear your feedback, and thanks!

you could throw in a few more eyes, but I'm not sure it needs it; might get too busy with all the extra mouths. as for weapons, maybe a giant meat cleaver style axe? same shape as the top concept weapon you drew, but with a larger blade and a few more chips in its edge. pretty awesome work

How about as was said above...but maybe the shaft of the weapon could be some form of rotting limb? You could model sinew or something similar holding the blade to the limb?

I agree with Lazzurus regarding the weapon being a combination of his last meal and something violent. I would recommend referencing "The Suffering" enemy art for ideas like that.

I think scythes are good for this nurgly daemon, though for the weapon itself, if you've seen the movie the 300, theres a part were the Persians impale the greek civilians to a tree for the 300 to find etc.
I think something similar for the size of this guy would work quite well, the wood of the scythe being merged with the impaled bodies adorning it / being a part of the actual scythe either from merging them into it, sort of like melting into the scythes wood or by being impaled giving it like, a flesh coat so to speak.
course you could maximise its un-bias by using a combination of different races to be impaled to the scythes handle itself.
I think that would look pretty decent?
This is the tree, pretty grim but you should get the idea of my idea from seeing it

Thanks for the feedback. I am loving the weapon ideas. I will work on some art and report back here. Incorporating some half-eaten recent meals or corpse totems into the weapon seems very fitting.
I think I am going to put in a few more eyes on the body as long as it does not get too busy.... and I was even thinking about giving this beast three eyes on his face instead of two. I did up a concept of what I am thinking. Thoughts?

What may look interesting is incorporating eyes in mouths. That way you are occupying the same space without making the composition less balanced. Let us say for instance the third eye on the head was drawn inside a mouth around the same size just perhaps without a tongue.

I will give that a shot. I think a mouth with an eye in it kind of becomes a large eyes socket kinda, so the teeth interacting in that space will be important.
Any more critiques from anyone? Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is another configuration for the three eyes. Better? Does he need a nose?

To me it seems more horrific without the nose. Is it mutating? is another head growing out of it? Add the nose and it is just a 3 eyed bogeyman to me.

I like the arrangement of the 3 eyes in a row. Looks suitably creepy. But rather than having bodies on the weapon, would it be a good idea to have half-eaten or obviously chewed on bodies skewered a la kebabs? Or would that be taking it too far?

I like the overall concept. My criticism, however, is directed towards the lower section. To me it does not reflect the bloated, overweight, decaying feel of the rest of the model.
Legs have no details inherent in the rest of the model, they also appear to be scarcely able to hold the bulk of the body up and in balance. They (legs/lower body) would be fine for a generic daemon, but lack the character of the daemon of rot and decay.
In my most humble opinion, that is...

Most of it's ok, but you'll want to create some more visual hierarchy to steer the eye. As it is the bellymouth catches the eye first, but after that the outstretched hand and the head vie for control (and it will become even more confusing once you add in a weapon).
Also, I understand your choice not to include any metal armour and keep it all skin but somehow I'm missing some visual anchors and form contrast; it's all a bit of the same bobbly nurgly texture, though this can easily be helped with a bit more colour contrast and some more definition in the teeth and tongues. And of course once the weapon is added that'll be a nice anchor as well.
Then, but this is a bit of a personal preference, I would have proportioned it a bit more dynamically; smaller torso and thinner arms, thicker gut, really accentuate that pear shape. That puts more dynamic into the model without even changing the pose.

These are all excellent points. I am going to work on some art that I think will address most of the points brought up in this thread so far.
I am hoping to make the moldy larger mutated arm a little more contrasted to the rest of the body, and add mold on the legs to add cohesion. Having another mouth open up near the face would add to the mutated look. I will increase the asymmetry of the model a little, to convey that this creature is in fact mutated. I did want the one forward arm big, but can reduce the opposite arm. I will play with the mouth-arm dimensions tho. The bicep could be thinner, etc. I can reduce the volume of the chest, making the belly and arms more prominent. I will attempt to add focus to the arm/head area, and the belly mouth, and try to not make the rest too busy. In some doodles I have recently done, in a strange way adding eyes to go with the mouths actually helps anchor the design.
I will be back with some art. Thanks guys. What else can I work on? Automatically Appended Next Post:
Before I work on the art for the body, here is a quick sheet for the face. I am starting to like the three-eyes idea. Are there any here that work, or do not work?

Lose the "smiling" belly mouth effect.
I'd go for a more Sarlacc Pit (Return of The Jedi) type round mouth with rings of teeth and tentacles/tongues coming out...
I'd like to see his hand as a seperate piece so that you could have different weapon options: sword of sickness, scythe, vile lash, ball and chain, etc.

Both good suggestions. I'm applying those changes to my next batch of art.
Anything else?

Blind fold his eyes, have the 3 squinting eye slits on his chest be what he is seeing with, which goes well with that giant stomach mouth lol
OP Im going to release the horror that have traumatized so many.
But it is only that is truly worthy to be used on Nurgle.
google " lotus nipple "
and apply that technique on your mini.

An idea for the weapon, maybe like a long decaying bone with some flesh on it, and at the end is the actual blade like a scythe or hammer or axe? That way its like metal fusing with bone, food and weaponry becoming one

Maybe in line with the eye in mouth idea, an eye or two on the tongue. The actual eyes of the beast being sockets with some ooze or something seeping out. Though F looks suitably blind and is the best one. The weapon? Perhaps a long handled flail with a carcass as the striking part.
A large scythe, while cliche, is also nice.

I like the good o rusted butcher blade, because....
he is FAT , like a butcher that wants more
also the broadness of the blade serves as a protective device if needed

I still like A with the nose best, because it looks like a face, not like three more pimples.
The legs are fine for me: Fat people usually don't have super muscular legs supporting their weight well.
