Subject: Imperial guard 1000 point army list

Hey I've got a 1000 point army here, looking for some advice on it
HQ
CCS
-4 Plasmas
110
CCS
-4 meltas
90
Troops
Vet squad
-3 meltas
-chimera
155
Vet squad
-3 plasma
-chimera
170
platoon 1
PCS
4 flamers
50
Infantry Squad
power weapon
flamer
Commisar w/ power weapon
110
Infantry Squad
-Power weapon
-Flamer
HWS
3 autocannons
75
HWS
3 Lascannons
105
Elites
Marbo
65
Total : 1005 points
the infantry squads are meant to form up into a power blob, and the plasma CCS provides orders for the 2 HWS. The melta CCS moves up with the blob to take care of armor that moves after them, although that might be over kill with the veterans already zooming around with meltas in a chimera.
So what do you guys think?

Generally its not a good idea to mix mech and infantry lists. Go mech or foot, not both.

I'd probably cut the flamers from the blob its just a delivery system for the power weapons anyway!

Thanks for the reply friend, you obviously put a lot of work into making that Post
My only problem with the Lord Commisar is that he seems a lot less flexible than the command squad, with say regimental standard, which effectively does the same thing. Plus a CC can put orders down for the HWS if need be such as Bring it Down and what not.
The vets were just being used as a QRF against tanks that were gonna rush or deepstirking enemies, as the blobs would not handle them very well.
Also quick Q can Chimeras capture tactical points on the battlefield?

Very interesting lists selection in the pervious post nice
and as for the chimeras capturing objectives sad to say its a no, only infantry troop choices can capture objectives unless its a friendly game and you agree otherwise
i do beleave however ( but i could be wrong) that the chimera being within 3inchs of objective can contest that objective so your oppenant cannot claim it as one for them but if it is just your chimera on its own ( no vets or infantry squads in it) then it cannot claim.
but having said that everythings prob going to change in a couple of months anyways when the new 40k rule book is release hope this helped

At 1k I wouldn't go hybrid. I would run 2 platoons for troops. Dual CCS at 1k is not something I've considered, but you do get a lot of band for your buck there.

Yeah I had been pouring all my points into troops, I had never considered grabbing a second CCS either. Makes sense, especially if you're going foot, double the orders, double the vets, double all the super fun upgrades that make them so awesome. Giving each a lascannon, parking them with a blob and a HWT might work fairly well... Threw together a quick little list to see how that would work. Still needs some tweaking obviously (probably don't need voxes, and those CCS could use Camo cloaks...), but I think you could make a pretty scary gunline with it.
+ HQ + (180pts)
* Company Command Squad (75pts) Lascannon, Vox Caster
* Company Command Squad (105pts) Lascannon, Officer of the Fleet, Vox Caster
+ Troops + (820pts)
* 1st Infantry Platoon (460pts)
* Infantry Squad: Autocannon, Meltagun, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Infantry Squad: Autocannon, Meltagun, Vox Caster, Commissar Power Weapon, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Infantry Squad: Autocannon, Meltagun, Vox Caster, Commissar Power Weapon, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Infantry Squad: Autocannon, Meltagun, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Platoon Command Squad: Autocannon
*2nd Infantry Platoon (360pts)
* Infantry Squad: Lascannon, Meltagun, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Infantry Squad: Lascannon, Meltagun, Vox Caster, Commissar Power Weapon, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Infantry Squad: Lascannon, Meltagun, Sergeant Power Weapon
* Platoon Command Squad: Autocannon
Gives you the option of two 20 man blobs and a 30, or one 30 and one 40 if you decide you need to bulk up. They all have meltas and PW's to discourage tankshocking, and to blow vehicles if you decide to charge in (with over 70 guardsmen, why wouldn't you ) You've got 2 CCS, so you can throw down "Bring it Down" and "Fire on my Target" all you want and do some serious damage the first couple of turns. With most of your Heavy weapons in blobs, it will take insane amounts of fire to kill them off. Once the opponent starts to close the distance, you can either open up with lasguns, or charge in to meet him, based on what he's playing. Officer of the Fleet is there to make the opponent think twice about reserving everything, especially if it could force his army to come in piecemeal.

Sorry but this isn't true.
Hybrid lists are amongst some of the competitive out there at the moment, especially since players seem to expect Mech lists when it comes to Guard.
I'm not being arrogant but my hybrid list has won about 80-90% of it's games over he past 6 months (out of about 15-20 games), and some of my opponents have been playing 15 years, so it's not as if i've been playing against complete noobs.
If you want to prove me wrong and play on vassal - let's arrange a couple of games to find out :-).
Anyways, 'Hammer and Anvil' type Hybrid lists work great IF you play them right. You need a blob or two to soak at the damage and provide a distraction - something your opponent can't ignore and will act as a tarpit (so add power weapons and commissars, possibly bring up Colonel Straken at the rear) : Maybe add a HWS or some artillery and that is your 'anvil'. Then you simply add whatever you want as a 'hammer' - a squad of meltavets in chimera plus a LRBT or Dem. Some people like DevilDogs too. Or a Valk or Vendetta.
I've tried mech and footlists and honestly this kind of hybrid list works best. I certainly wouldn't go around telling people that you should stick to either a footslogging list or Mech list and not mix the two. That just isn't true.

Sumi actually takes the time to write lists on here for IG players looking for advice, and a lot of them generate excellent ideas and are solid, which is more than I can say for a lot of posters on here. So dunno why you are getting so antsy about it.
Also, i've heard that criticism about a Lord Commissar plenty of times, and can tell you if you place him correctly on the table, he will not get singled out if you know what you are doing. I usually put him at the rear in cover, blocking enemy LOS, yet still within 6" of my units.
I've had people sneer at that and claim "Pft, i'll just get an assassin to take him out!" or "I'll deep strike or scout and take him out in CC"...The Vindacator assassin failed. I just kept moving the Lord Commissar to BLOS. Then killed the Vindicator with a multilaser (always fun). Deep Strikers always get shot too pieces/counter-assaulted before they've been able to touch him. A scouting striking scorpions squad was the only time i've been caught out - due to stupid placement on my part - and they killed him. But since then it just hasn't happened.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I should have probably made clear that i'd never take the LC as my sole HQ choice - I use him solely for the ld10 and stubborn bonuses he gives to a power blob or HWS on a gunline. Especially good for HWS since they can't have ordinary Commissars and will run away easily.
I'd always have CCS as main HQ choice, the LC is secondary and is there solely for the huge morale boosts.

Nothing against sumi, but it might've been a good idea to spoiler each list so that it didn't take up half the screen
On the subject that his arent "on topic", unless we post a list thats almost identical to OP's, we're going to be going off in wierd directions. Sumi has some pretty interesting ideas for lists though (for example, the second to last one with three demolishers, thats just nasty) I've never used any of his lists he's suggested, but they always give me ideas on things to try with my own lists. He'll post somethng like a 3 demolisher list and I'll go from "pff this is stupid" to "holy crap i'm going to have to try mixing that in with my gunline list sometime". Which I believe is his goal, he posted a ton of varied lists to give the OP ideas of all the directions you can go at a 1,000pts.
Back on topic. @ the OP, do you have any more models, or is what you listed pretty much all you have? Even if you only have like 20 more models, that will give us a lot more basis to help you tweak your list.

This is all I have so far, and not planning on getting much more at the moment unless a super deal pops up on ebay!
So far I've had to make do with what I have, for example, 2 of my lascannon teams are just 2 cadians with a left over lascannon from a razorback stuck on a cavalry base!
