I've been looking through the army books lately, with my dilemma with my Skaven and there future pending I'm browsing my options but at the moment I can't find much I really really like. I like the Minotaur and such from the Beastmen army but I'm not too keen on the rules, for one having to have 500pts worth of core in a 2000pt army requires me to take a bunch of gors that I don't like unless I go for a full chariot army (because having a core full of chariots would just leave the rest of my army behind).

So while browsing I looked over the ogre kingdoms again, I like there stuff but I don't like there models as such. Thats when I saw a comparison almost between them and minotaurs. Would it be possible and decent to customize ogres into minotaurs and instead create my own kind of "Minotaur kingdoms" the ogre kingdoms book, all models customized to be Minotaurs of different shapes, sizes and armours.

Kind of looking for some opinions on this, the models how customization friendly are ogres, and the minotaurs? Would it make sense to you? would you play against it? all that good stuff.

I'm also curious how heavily customized model wise armies are treated in regards to GW held competitive grounds.

I did a Throgg Count as minotaur army a while back. Also the beastmen army is faster than our chariots.

But yeah I see nothing wrong with your idea

I like the idea. Actually, I think someone here might have done the same thing or close to it. (maybe Buttlerthepug ) I am not sure how easy it will be to convert the minotaurs into the different types of ogres though. I think that is the biggest concern I would have with the army, being able to differentiate between bulls and ironguts. Even then I would still like to play against it and might just have to keep asking which is which. I have the same opinion about liking the minotaur models better than the ogre models and think it would look cool to see a minotaur riding the stonehorn.

+1

I think the only problem is that it becomes harder for your opponent to tell units apart and know their rules. Which can slow down games. The last thing you want to hear is "oh, man, I forgot that was ______."

Doh. I think this was the army I was thinking of. Sorry about that Johnny.

A minotaur Ogre Army would be pretty sweet. Ogre and Ironguts would be easy to do and would actually give you a reason to equip Minotaurs with Shields! XD

Would take a bit more converting to do, say, Maneaters, especially if they have handguns. But Mournfang would be easy, as you could just do Chariots! XD

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

I say go for it! I've been thinking of doing the same thing with Rat Ogres ever since the Hellpit WD list was released.

The main thing to remember is to make it stupidly obvious what each unit is supposed to be; ie. for Ironguts something like absolutely covering them in armor or making them an entire unit of Brass Bulls like that one special character so that even the most stubborn of opponents can tell at a glance.
