I probably know what the answer to this is gonna be, but i'm procrastinating at the library just now and don't have a rulebook.

If I have a CSM lord start in a rhino with possessed, and the possessed roll a 1, can I scout move the rhino if the lord is deployed in it with them?

Thinking of doing a Word Bearers force based on the awesome series, in which the Dark Apostle's bodyguard is usually made up of possessed

I don;t know anything about CSM, but scout is an asterixed USR. So the unit will lose it if the IC doesn't have it.

However, the IC is not attached to the rhino. As it is,

A: Yes

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

But the rhino doesn't have scout, does it? I really know nothing about CSM.

Assuming the rhino itself does not have scout, and if I understand it correctly, the embarked possessed have scout. And the possessed give scout to their dedicated transport. And the possessed will lose it when joined by an IC without scout and so won't have scout to confer on their dedicated transport. Which would mean that FAQ is not really applicable?

Note all the question marks instead of declarative statement.

The rhino is a dedicated transport for the possessed, this means it confers scout from them, however if an IC is stuck in the transport it can't budge. This is exactly the same as if the possessed were out in the open and got scout, the IC doesn't have it, so they can't do it.

A. No.

A Vehicle with scout can carry a non-scouting unit and still use all the benifits of it scouting, but scouts in a non-scouting vehicle would loose the benifit of scouting.

Grendel, the relevant part of that quote is the word "any". Per the rulebook, units with Scout specifically do pass it on to their Dedicated Transport. That FAQ question is clarifying that they don't give it to a NON-Dedicated transport that they're embarked in.

Yep, you're quite right. Dedicated transports are the exception, my mistake.

However, none of that matters.

A) A unit with Scout loses Scout if an IC without it joins them.
B) The Lord does not have Scout.
> The Possessed lose Scout.

They can't simulatenously lose a USR and confer it to their transport.

I did not know that the Possessed were giving the Rhino, Scout. As such my post has no bearing in this case.

yeah I have always used possessed with a dedicated Rhino, and that they confer the ability onto the transport in the event of rolling a 1 on their daemonkin ability. But didn't think it would apply if there was an IC with them

Just thought I would ask what you guys thought, and if I could chance my luck with it

A sidetrack with the scouts ability - In the daemonkin description, it mentions that the daemonkin ability is rolled after deployment. In a dawn of war deployment, the possessed can't start on the table (as they are Elites) therefore, does that mean that I can outflank them in that instance?

In Dawn of War I think you're still out of luck. Because DURING deployment, when you put a unit in Reserve, is when you have to declare whether it's Outflanking or not. And sadly, due to the stupid timing of the Possessed roll, they don't have Scouts yet at the point when you'd need to make the declaration.

Oh, of course. We were just discussing a related, tangential question.
