Subject: Thoughts on the M4 105mm Sherman?

In the process of fleshing out my US tank company (2nd Armoured Div from Turning Tide and sometimes the generic tank company from v3 for fun) and have stared putting together a handful of M4 105mm Shermans. Just curious to hear peoples thoughts on their use in the field and why you include them in your lists (or why you spend the points else where).
I personally just like the idea of a pack of howizters running around the place, sure the range isn't that great and being a Sherman, they aren't the sturdiest tanks but I still have a soft spot for them.

George Spigott has been telling everyone to hold out for these. The main reason is we are waiting for confirmation of their rules e.g if they are a Bunker Buster (BB) or just a Break through Gun (BTG).
This is important because as if you shoot at infantry or a building if you hit it is gone, no saves e.g You hit it, it dies (no save allowed). This makes them game changers, so we are waiting for confirmation (should be in the V3 Forces books?).
So yeah if these rules are right (99% of us think it is correct based on a howitzer statline), 105mm M4 Shermans will be a very high threat unit.

The V3 forces book puts them as just a break through gun, the 155mm howitzer is the only US big gun to get the bunker buster perk. The break through gun rule is the reason I had started looking at them in the first place. While it would be nice to get 1 hit kills on buildings, no save hits on pretty much everything else is still a nice bonus.
Potentially dumb question, but does the updated stat line from the V3 force book apply for pre V3 books (like Turning Tides)?

It certainly would be nice, but there is no confirmation on this yet.

There is alot of talk about stickers that you put in certain books to update them. Not heard of anything solid yet, i'm sure someone on here knows much better than I, and will probably post up something.

I would personally be surprised if anything in the game smaller than 150mm (aside from the oddballs like Soviet Faustniki) got Bunker Buster.
As for the M4(105), I don't think it's worth it without the Breakthrough Gun perk. With that perk, however, it's potentially quite useful. I don't know whether or not Turning Tide will be updated, but a new US Armor list will be released in the next campaign book, "Blood, Guts, and Glory", which covers the Lorraine campaign of late 1944 to early 1945, and will include lists for the 4th and 7th(?) Armored Divisions in that time period. I suspect that the M4(105) will receive it's BTG perk at that time.
Additionally, that book will include fun stuff like Tank Destroyer companies (Hellcats and Jacksons, iirc), EZ-8s, and Jumbos.

Bunker buster was a bit of a Freudian slip on my part when I mentioned them last. My bad! Word has it that they get Breakthrough Gun.
This is significant because they have a turret, this means that they can defensive fire with it and their MGs (not the AA .50cal though). Breakthrough gun can really put the pain on assaulting infantry as every hit kills without a save (no bullet proof cover in defensive fire). They can also use their tank telephones to remove Gone to Ground (with some supporting infantry). 105 Shermans supported by an infantry platoon will make a very nice toolbox unit able to perform both offensive and defensive actions against enemy infantry, guns and light armour.

Hi folks.
Slightly off topic.
Does the PSC sherman kits give you the option of a 105mm gun?
It appears to have 3 gun barrels, 75mm 76mm and another shorter wider barrel.
(I have not seen the sprue, just a picture of the sprue.)
It may be worth knowing for those gamers collecting US AD...
Just a thought.

Yes there's a 105 gun on the sprue though none of the Sherman models depicted in PSC kits currently released featured 105 guns.
Just in case you were really picky about having exactly the right Sherman.
