Hey,

Just got some baal red wash and was wondering which one you like. Both have problems like the wash looking like a wash on the model...maybe a varnish would help with this? The other without any wash. Can you please give me tips..... should I water down the wash? Which one do like more?

With wash.

Honestly I can't see any noticeable difference between the two, and I don't see why varnish would help. What are you trying to get from washing it with Baal? Do you want it brighter?

Yeah, I don't think you need to wash a red basecoat with Baal... the results look similar to me (both pics look pretty good).

Well..... well they are not much different.... but with the wash the details are softer and it hides the lines in the blending. I want to varnish it as the wash kind of gives it a weird texture. Kind of looks like it has a layer of cloudiness.

Not sure what people above are talking about.

The models in pic 1 have a richer, more blood-red look to me.

I like these best. What is your process for painting them?

I just use washes to define shading before i start highlighting. If you want to use them to finish a model, you're better off making your own washes with paint, water, and floor polish.

The redin the first pic does look a little richer though, but then the second pic seems to have a brighter light source.... If the overall effect is that subtle, I would just trust your own judgement: You certainly seem to be a good enough painter to do that

I dunno. The light seems to be playing tricks on me. The top picture (looking at the backgrounds and the shadows on the model) looks like it has more light shown at all angles on the mini, and more so on the mini on the right. The bottom picture looks darker, the leftmost mini having more shadows than the right created by the light.
