I'm in the process of creating a fully converted Digganob army for Warhammer 40k (for those who don't know, the Digganobz were a group of human barbarians on Gorkamorka who worshiped the Orks and tried to emulate them in every way).
I'm running them with Ork rules when they're done, and my conversion for Old Zogwort is the Reaper miniature for Baba Yaga, crazy old nag. So my idea is that Baba Yaga turns Independent Characters into chickens rather than Squigs...

Trouble is, I can't for the life of me find chickens that look good with 28mm models. I've tried model train chickens, but they are far too small, and every toy chicken I've found is far too big.
So, anyone know where I can find 28mm scale chickens? Even if they are low on detail I can spice them up with greenstuff.

The other thing I'd LOVE to find is 28mm scale children to convert into barbarian children (Diggabratz) to field as Grots.

Anyone know of some bizarre miniature company that makes chickens and children?

What about geese?

They're 1/35 so they're slightly over sized, but 1/35 often works with heroic scale. And geese are funnier than chickens I think. EDIT: Just saw the chicken post. Unless you're independently wealthy, probably best to go with those chickens.

Perry does some children but they're small, metal, and probably wouldn't be much fun to convert.

I promise it's nothing sinister... For now...

I agree, but Baba Yaga has a thing about chickens. She's in a old fairy tail, I think.

Those models do look sufficiently panicked, though. I guess a Space Marine captain would flip his biscuits if he suddenly found himself goose-ified.

Many thanks, my friend! These are perfect. They even have little nests for me to stick all over terrain...
It's funny, board game websites were the only place I didn't think to look.

So, Anyone know of any plastic children minis for converting? I know using them as Grots is a little dark, but I think it would be hilarious.

Hmm, grots/goblins with small human heads and hands (I'm paticularly thinking some WHFB which is less "heroically" overscaled than much 40K) would look pretty close to children, so long as you can find the right heads (e.g. avoid beards )

Baba Yaga's house stood on two giant chicken feet. That's the extent of her having really anything to do with chicken...

If that at all matters.

Wait... How the hell have I never seen these before? I thought I searched all over Reaper... Many thanks! I'm going to buy these right away.

I had seen a couple of those others, but the Hassle Free and Gripping Beast minis are perfect. In an ideal world, I wanted to have plastic, even multi-part children for more conversion opportunities, but I think I should just give up on that dream and try to make these guys more Orky (or Digganobby).

One of my original conversion ideas was to have a Digganob child sitting on the shoulders of an Ultramarine with a large rock lifted above his head, like he was controlling the Marine by pummeling him in the right direction, complete with a big dent in the Marine's helmet and his arms bent up at an awkward angle as he tried to fight the child off but couldn't because of the horrible range of motion Space Marine armor would have in the arms.

My idea was just to field the model as an Ork Boy, and maybe even make an entire unit of Marines being harassed by Digganob children, with one tugging a Space Wolf's beard and the other twisting a Marines helmet to face the opposite direction, etc. But I think that the would be a bit of a stretch without plastic children,,,

Once again, though, thanks for the suggestions! You guys are far more willing to help out than the population of some other forums (which shall go unmentioned).

Also, the Baba Yaga chicken house Stompa is under careful consideration. Awesome suggestion.

Well, you are in luck! There are plastic children and some of them are models holding rocks!

I lied. They're not children, but close. They're hobbits. From the Mines of Moria boxed set (kinda like the LotR version of AoBR):

There's also Sam and Frodo, and I think a cooking pot for a weapon just fits your army.

They can pass off as children and maybe a bit of greenstuff on their heads so they won't look like hobbit curls.

You could also look for civilians or elves in smaller scales such as 1/72, 20mm or maybe even 25mm.

Sounds like a fun project. The hobbits from LOR would work fairly well as children. Just some modification to them and they should work out.

Whoa this is a bit old. Anyway if you're still looking for kid-scale miniatures, check out wargamesfactory's male apocalypse survivors - they come with some really good child-sized minis, in 28mm scale too. only problem is there's only 3 per box of 30, so.
