Vice President Joe Biden is the biggest cheerleader of the president's decision to raid Osama bin Laden's compound and, on Monday, he offered new praise for the choice Obama made last spring.

“You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there,” Biden said at a fundraiser in Morris Township, N.J.

“Do any one of you have a doubt that if that raid failed that this guy would be a one-term president?” Biden asked. Obama, he said, “is willing to do the right thing and risk losing.”

Biden said he spends four to six hours a day with the president and watches him make decisions. “I’m telling you, man, this guy is not only smart as hell, he is absolutely ready to make the decision and stand back and live with it. No whining," the vice president said. "I literally do get to be the last guy in the room.”

Tickets for the fundraiser started at $1,000 and went up to $5,000 for a VIP reception. There were 140 guests and, in all, the pool reporter estimated that the event brought in about $400,000.

Sure, that's certainly braver than someone who actually put their life on the line.

What is it with vice presidents? Reagan had the last one I even slightly liked, and that's including the ones that ran and weren't elected.

I just cant believe people like Politicians/Political parties enough to pay $1000 to see/support them!

I vote Conservative generally, but I don't particularly LIKE the fethers.. And I bloody love the Queen (Gawd bless 'er) but I wouldn't pay for the privilege of meeting her.

And $5000 for a VIP reception?!

Id want a fething tug off Mrs Obama for that much money!

They don't pay $1000+ a plate to support them, they pay it to gain influence. Just voting for someone doesn't get you influence, bankrolling their campaign does.

So, having not been part of the Apollo Program, or even alive when D-Day went down, you feel compelled to determine what is insulting to these people?

It was a stupid thing to say because people will manufacture reasons to be offended by it, but lots of those people tend to be offended very easily.

It's hard to hold puffery against a politician whipping up support at a fundraiser dinner. And that kind of puffery is hardly stupid.

Frazz it is possible to read the transcript from the mission accomplished speech. The entire speech is full of statements describing the mission as over, being successful, etc. A mention of the "mission" uses past tense language.

Are you suggesting the ship's crew hung a banner up behind the president prior to a televised speech without his consent or approval?

I paid £7 for an event where our deputy prime minister was interviewed and then got to meet him in person afterwards.

Met the queen too actually, but she paid for that and the canapés were lovely.
