Im wanting to get in lord of the rings but being new to miniature gaming i dont know which one to start, from what ive seen there's 2 types of lord of the rings miniatures game one thats kinda like a skirmish so im guessing less miniatures and then the other ones that have big blocks of units. my question is which is better in your opinion.

I've never actually played WOTR although I have read the rules extensively but my vote would be for SBG.

I think its simple and fun plus they have just realised a load of new sourcebooks to bring all the rules together. The model count is normally smaller but there is nothing stopping you playing large scale games (1500 above point games) which will contain hundreds of models.

It basically depends whether you want to play a large scale, unit based game or a small scale skirmish based game. There isn't a wrong choice as both are equally fun and rewarding.

Well actually saying that, the beauty of the games is that they have interchangeable models. You use the same models in both games with the only difference being the movement trays.

You can easily play both!

i was thinking the strategy one myself, i dont really care for movement trays, i was wondering whats the normal point value for the skirmish one.

The normal in my experience is anywhere between 500-1000 points. Any less is too small and any larger and the games run for too long.

ill most likely do 1000 just to have it. I bought some minis tirith models well a couple of different things of them.

Yeah, if you have a thousand points you can mix up your list when you play.

So you're thinking of making a Minas Tirith army then? What other models do you like the look of?

Remember that you are allowed allied contingents in your armies which means you don't have to focus on one faction if you don't want to!

Have you got hol ofd the Kingdoms of Men sourcebook yet?

I havent gotten any books yet since i didnt know which ones to get, and all i have right now is a box of minis tirith warriors 3 veterans and 3 citadel guards. What i want next is the mounted minis tirith.

Well you'll need the Kingdoms of Men sourcebook for a Minas Tirith army. When you do get it it'll explain how to make an army and you'll be able to look at all the units available.

If you haven't got a rulebook then you'll want to get one of them asap. If you look on ebay you'll be able to find one easy enough for much cheaper than a new one.
