Subject: The Imperium has taken over the world...our world!

Ancient Venerable Dreadnought
Thousand Sons Battleship wandering the galaxy...

What would happen if the Imperium conquered our world. Of course, there'd be the expected political and military reorganization, religious upheaval and all, but how will the Imperium imperialize us?
|
I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

Use our populations for an Imperial Guard regiment and turn the rest into factory workers probably.

True enough.
Information control, military buildup, upgrading the UN to a world government, establishment of a single military, tithing our world's significant population (China), military, resources, industry, while the Mechanicum would take a lion's share of our technology, although all innovation would cease to exist. Political and intellectual freedom would be limited, religious freedom will be gone, capitalism will be chained, among other things... Automatically Appended Next Post: Durza wrote:Use our populations for an Imperial Guard regiment and turn the rest into factory workers probably.
Not really. Our world is a civilized world, and they wouldn't really remove democracy, since the Imperium doesn't really care how a world is governed as long as it submits to Imperial authority.

They'd probably end up executing a lot of intellectuals and scientists. Our scientists and engineers woudl probably try to examine and "fix" Imperial technology since its rarely innovated and has a ton of problems. That kind of tech heresy just isn't tolerated. Intellectuals tend to question and challenge the social order in at least small ways. Imperial dogma is very intolerant as are its enforcers so executions and imprisonments would be in order.

That depends on the commander. Someone like Gaunt might be happy to leave us as we are, but others would look at the wars in the Middle East and decide there's no logical reason to not draw a few troops from a world that's clearly eager to fight. And considering how inefficient our production is compared to how it would be if all our companies worked together rather than competing, they might step in there as well.

That's why I said capitalism would be chained for more united and efficient production so we can meet tithe quota. And they'd try to imperialize our culture first before they start drawing troops.
First: religion has to be united and adapted to Imperial standards. That's gonna take a lot of missionaries, holy sisters, confessors, etc. to achieve.
Second: the UN will have to gain at least federal control over Earth's nation-states. That's gonna take a lot of Imperial Guardsmen and arbites to enforce.
Three: population transfer off and on planet to liquidate local cultures and easier imperialization.
Four: a lot of executions and reconditioning will be taking place; but while scientists and engineers would be hunted down and killed/forced to convert, that won't stop AM. from cannibalizing our technology.
Five: once imperialization is complete, tithes will be imposed, and planet will be considered as a full imperial world.

Excepting that we're a democracy that really doesn't get on well with totalitarianism, or being a puppet state, which would slate us for a rather lengthy session of "regime change" and "indoctrination".

I would say first: War. I don't think that we would just blindly submit to a new authority. Sure, at first we would be like "Aww no way man! Humans existing in other places? Awesome!"
Then when we found out that they would be drawing Earth's sons to fight their wars, killing all innovation of technology, and removing our governments and religion, we would freak the feth out and start fighting back. I know I would. Can you imagine living in a world where there was only one iteration for the iPhone??

Well all Warhammer 40k players that were pro-Imperial would probably be absorbed as Military Commanders or assistants to the Inquisition because of there vast knowledge of the Warhammer 40k universe.
As a proud Imperial Guard player, I would very much like the idea of a Imperial dominated Earth.
Also would be funny what the Imperium would do with Matt Ward.

What would happen, as per the Imperium's standard assimilation procedure with lost human colonies.
First off, they would form diplomatic relations and send in Ecclesiarchy missionaries. After enough of the population has been converted they would set up a planetary government on the bones of one of the existing governments, probably the United States and/or China. At this point all governments would be required to submit, pay tribute, and revere the God Emperor. They could keep their independence in all other areas but no deviation would be allowed otherwise.
At this point there would be war with those who wouldn't conform. Imperial forces would crush organized resistance within a matter of weeks. Minor resistance movements would persist in the hinterlands of the planet but total dominance would be achieved very quickly.
And now Earth would be a fully complient Imperial Planet. Probably not worth much besides raising a Guard regiment every so often as we don't have immense mineral wealth. it could be converted into an Agri-world but that would probably be more trouble then its worth. We probably would remain a standard civilized world, raising a Guard regiment every couple years and just plodding happily along. there would be mineral exploitation of the other planets in the solar system with Earth as the hub before sending the materials off elsewhere.

Unlikely, they would suspect the loyalty of those troops. Everyone would go through basic training and indoctrination as standard protocol. Granted people who already went through military training would pass faster but they would need proper indoctrination. And I suspect Commissars wouldn't go over too well.

If the Imperium took over tomorrow, no one alive today would be trusted as PDF or IG... or as anything other than grunt labor, really. There would be decades, centuries, even, of cultural assimilation and indoctrination into the Imperium before there would even be a chance that they would trust us with laser guns and tanks.
