Greetings my fellow Necron brothers, I have come to seek your aid in the fight against the Dark Eldar battles that are yet to come. This weekend The Soulless Dynasty will battle in a 1500 point game and I wish to know some tips that will benefit me in any way possible. I pretty much own one of every unit in the Necron codex, at least everything that has a model. Then Next week I will fight a more experienced Dark Eldar player who's got many Dark Space Elves at his deposal. So if anything else Saturday will be the warm up and next week will be the real deal. The plan is simple, just shoot and shoot and just shoot some more with Warriors, Destroyers, and with the annihilation barge. What do you think? The Necrons Will Rule The Galaxy Once More!!

I love it, the first post is telling me to take Immotekh and the first thing I was thinking about was if should take him or not. I just wasn't sure since Dark Eldar have Night Vision I didn't know if it would be wise or not but the lightning seem like it would be worth it. Looks like I will be taking Immotekh for sure now, thanks.

I would suggest taking a royal court with lance teks spread out through your other units. This will give you some long range anti tank and since they are spread out among your units they will be harder to remove.

Now that I'm taking Imotekh I might as well take a Royal Court with two Crypteks carrying some Eldrich Lance. Once again I wasn't sure to take these guys since I was thinking I can just use Destroyers or other units with stronger weapons to take out their sail boats.

NF if good and all, but each lightning strike that comes down is pretty much a dead DE vehicle. Immo can single handedly win a game for Necrons against DE or Guard; just make sure to take a chronotek with him!

Night vision helps against night fighting but it doesn't negate it, plan for the de to have maybe 27" sight range rather than the more common 21" when positioning, but yeah Imotekh is mostly good here for lightning.

Other than imotekh you'll want lanceteks and annihilation barges, you need to drop those skimmers but quick. They all have fairly paltry armor values but will almost always have a flat out save so volume of fire in the st7-8 range is the name of the game.

After everything is firmly on terra firma a lot of dark eldar's best tricks kinda fall flat against necrons, the poison stuff doesn't negate our saves and the save negating stuff doesn't easily get past our toughness. Fill up on scoring units and survivability.

Wraiths being st6 can cut through t3 feel no pain and whip coils are especially painful for an army with such high base initiative, they just aren't made to go second in combat. I know they have no models yet but tomb blades with particle beamers would also do good work.

High priority expensive units with a lot of toughness like destroyers or lychguard tend to be less useful, guass cannons aren't great for fighting the skimmers and don't negate feel no pain and few de units have a 3+ save to negate. DE also tend to run a ton of short range high power and low ap weapons on suicide reavers as well as poison spam, all of which is bad news for high toughness models.

Having played on the opposite side I really feel that Imotekh tarnishes any victory with his presence.

Don't try to fight DE in the dark past turn 2. Necrons are a shooty army and not being able to see really reduces your effectiveness.

Agreed. This is how I play Imotekh in every game with his presence, I spend the first two turns moving and running just trying to get into position while hiding in the dark. Then on turn 2 or 3 I cancel the effects and unleash a rain of Gauss into my enemy. The lighting in my opinion is just icing on the cake.

I'm starting to think Imotekh is almost an auto-include. For, say, 1500-1850 and up.

He hampers some builds more then helps them, but if your focusing on a lot of Scarabs/ Spyders /Flayed Ones/Wraiths/TPs...well basically if your focused around short ranged to CC figihting he's great.

Also, Immortals are pretty nails versus DE because their base gun can Pen the paper airplanes.

Indeed, I always run Immortals over Warriors for the simple fact that they have a better save, and a stronger gun with a decent armor pen. They're just so darn good at what they do and in the end a full unit of ten Immortals is only 40 points more then a unit of 10 Warriors. However, I have seen a full unit of 20 Warriors in action and they really did some serious damage. I was thinking of running a 20 unit Warriors and 10 until Immortals against the Dark Elves just for the massive shooting. Probably going to put Imotekh in the unit of Warriors so they'll have relentless and really shoot stuff up.

3x Annihilation Barges. 4x twin-linked shots with Tesla means you get on average a little better than 5 hits per barge, and against DE's paper mache skimmers these Str 7 shots are deadly.

And if you can proxy anything, I would get some Night Scythes, too. Str 7 Tesla spam can cut into DE pretty quick.

You'll definitely want Imotekh hanging out with 2x Chronoteks, though. That way you can really maximize the lightning strikes.
