I'm a little confused, what is riding in the stormravens? becuase (10) termies and a termie Libby takes up 22 spots in any transport, and the stormraven only seats 12.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

I'm playing double Stormraven (at 1850 and 2000, and even a little at 1750) right now, and have been testing a few different combos. I think the Stormravens aren't really worth it if you're not making full use of their transport capacity.

The downside of using a 10 man squad of Terminators is that you can't split them between the SRs if you're starting in reserve; which you pretty much always want to do if you're going second.

I'd say our best options for Stormraven squads are Assault Terminators (preferably with a priest for FNP), Mephiston, or Death Company. You can free up an Elite slot for a priest or a second squad of assault terminators by swapping the second Furioso for either a HS Dreadnought or a Death Company Dread.

You could go:

One Stormraven with:
Mephiston
+ Furioso

One Stormraven with:
Assault Terminators + Priest
+HS Dread

Or one SR with Librarian, Assault terminators, Furioso
+
One SR with Death Company, Death Company Dread.

Just put the Libby and (5) assault termies in one SR, and then put Lemartes and (8) DC in the other one, beat face, rinse and repeat.

@Mannahnin

If I do reserve anything it will be the Terminators if I'm going second. I've still been pretty successful with the birds starting on the table. On turn or 3 I'll enjoy a big brick of Terminators coming in. This isn't to say I'm opposed to going the Death Company route, I just enjoy a big unit of Terminators.

Big units of terminators are good. Still would help them to have a priest in the squad or nearby, though. BA don't get Null Zone, and we pay more for the hammers, but FNP on terminators is pretty awesome.

I'm really looking forward to trying a list with locator beacons. I want to both DS stuff and use it for Skies of Blood. I love the idea of jetting the thing 24", dropping a multimelta dread out the back and shooting. Or a Furioso with Frag Assault Cannon double-templating a squad.

If he goes second and he is lucky enough to roll for both SRs, Terminators, and dreads to come in, he can put them each in SR.

Isn't that the case?

@leohart

You'd be correct in that; however, without any modification of Reserve rolls...it ain't happening.

No. Because you have to declare what units are in which transports when you declare your reserves, and you can't combat squad while in Reserves. You can only combat squad once you actually arrive on the table, which is too late to fly on in the SRs.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You can go ahead and just embark the dreads and DS the terminators, but then you've got a 50/50 chance of the terminators arriving T2 and not being able to use the beacons (which have to have started the turn on the table). Even if the terminators arrive after the SR (about a 1/3-1/2 chance, spitballing the math), at that point they're charging on Turn 4 at earliest. Whereas if they start in the SR they're almost always charging on turn 2, or turn 3 or 4 if in Reserve.

I intend on always having the Stormravens starting on the table. The only exception would be against Hydra Spam I.G., in which case I really don't know what I would do.

Last night I played against a 3 raven list at 1800 points. He had 2 assault marine squads with priest and librarian with that 5+ invul spell, one squad in each, with a furioso also in each, then 5 terminators in the third. The way he positioned the ravens they and everything else always seemed to be getting the 5+ save, and feel no pain. It was horrible!! Although I won we both knew that that was only down to one failed pinning check on his part.

That would be 5+ cover not invul. Very important to know the difference when playing against BA.

Manna hit the nail on the head. I've been running a double raven list solely with my BA for over a year now. I find you need other fast support units with the ravens, and both ravens need a cargo that makes your opponent need to stop both.

This is my take on a decent "double dragon" list:

SR (TL LC, TL MM, extra armor)
(8) DC squad w/ PF
Lemartes
DC Dread w/ blood talons
675

SR (TL LC, TL MM, extra armor)
(5) assault termies w/ (4) th+ss, (1) LC
San. Priest in Termie armor
Libby Dread (shield + Lance)
695

Libby (shiel+rage) w/ JP
(8) assault squad w/ meltagun
289

(8) assault squad w/ meltagun
San Priest w/ JP
239

(5) scout squad w/ (4) snipers, (1) ML, (5) camo cloaks
100

I don't really think the assault squads in their current form add much really, there just isn't enough firepower to diminish the massive amounts of AT that will be coming your Storm Ravens way.

Well, their scoring units, they have the 5+ from the Libby's shield and FNP. So they should survive long enough to get to the AT units and destroy them.
