I was reading my codex for orks and they get a 5+ by being within the force field, but i keep seeing kan wall lists pop up saying the boyz would get a 4+.. Is this do to them being behind the kans? I dont have the rule book readily in front of me, just wanted to make sure..

Short answer, Yes. It's from shooting through another unit.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If another unit and/or terrain are obscuring half or more of the models in your unit, they will get a 4+ cover save.

So a Kan Wall list will normally keep half of the Kans from each squad within 6" of the KFF, so they get the 4+ for being obscured. Then spread the Kans out so they obscure at least half of the Orks in the front squad. Then the orks and the Kans give cover to the boyz behind them.

Just remember that the majority of the kanz need to within range of the KFF (ie, the base of the middle kan must be touching tha6 6" bubble) for them to all get the 4+ save.

If only one is in range, the entire squadron MAY get a 5+ save, but it's a ruling that has some contention .

May I jump on the back of this. I also had a question about the KFF.

In the codex it states

Units within 6" of a KFF will

blah, blah , blah, cover saves.

Now what it doesn't say is FRIENDLY. I can't see a erratta in the Ork FAQ but this wording would mean enemy units gain this benefit too?

BRB FAQ clarifies this.

Wargear only effects enemy units if it specifically states as such.

I've had some opponents try to throw this at me, so I learned it quickly

Cheers. I don't play orks but my brother was worried.
