Hey guys just a bit of a question on painting here. I was talking to my friend about painting models and he seemed astonished that i spend about half an hour painting one model. The reason for that being is that he says he spent ten minutes per model painting his most recent bloodletter squad. My men do tend to be a fair bit better looking on a closer inspection in my opinion however. Anyway my main question was if 30 minutes was an abnormally long time to paint one model for.

Not at all,i spend about 45 minutes painting my models(and even then they don't look that great) some people will take longer and some people will take less it all depends on how detailed you wont them but by no means is 30 minutes abnormally long.

go on,click it,it wont bite....ok maybe it will

By my reckoning, 30 minutes would be abnormally short for one model, let alone 10 minutes for a squad!

Honestly it depends on the model and what the intent is. If I am painting a IC it takes me a long long time.

If its a really boring model like a guardsman it doesn't take very long...

Half hour atm would be very quick (and probably ideal for my IG) a time to be painting a model for me. Most of the time I get caught up and can likely finish about 2 of my guardsmen in a night and then base them the next day. Taking about an hour to 90 minutes a model not including basing.

Its took me a week of painting 1-3 hours a day (most days atleast) to paint a unit of 40 skaven clanrats, and they're not painted especially well or even finished... just adequate lol.
It really depends on what you're in the hobby for; gaming or painting/modeling... most are some hybrid of the two however.
I'm more of a painter/modeler than a gamer even though I do have a dabble on the tables, I'm hardly competetive at it.

"Speed painting" a single model generally involves about an hour and a half for me, so 30 minutes doesn't seem out of bounds. That being said, I might be on the opposite end of the spectrum from your friend, and that's okay. No matter what kind of hobby you're into, everyone takes a different approach to the same problem and time's can vary greatly depending upon what you want your end results to be!
