There's a lot of talk about From Software's Dark Souls on this forum, but nothing about their other baby, AC5. I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten into it.
It's excellent so far, and I'm really enjoying it. It's slower than AC4/fa, and really focuses on a more methodical, tactical style of gameplay. Lots of working around terrain. I personally find it to be one of the best ACs ever, based on its mechanics. It's a nice balance between the slower gameplay of the older games, with the faster gameplay of AC4/fa, combined with a new level of tactical breadth added by the presence of the Operator and the complexity of the maps.
So far, I find myself to really love reverse joint ACs for their extreme vertical mobility.

Because it's incredibly dull, it's a competent simulator rather than a decent videogame. I'm sure Its fun if you're a Min/Maxxor who's stiffened by spreadsheets. Also i have never seen a game that makes complete mobility feel so unempowering.
Hawken is the smart choice, even if it is still pretty rough round the edges.

Havent tried 5 yet, but im a fan of all the previous ones, mainly 4.
However, the online play isnt as good as it could be.
I generally run a light with twin blades.
Once you get the hang of boost strafing then its pretty easy, but gets boring quickly.
Pretty much just high speed hit and runs.
As an Armored Core fan that fell out of the vidoe game thing for a few years and I got back into games for AC5 Im ok with it.
I do feel the current game graphically is about the same as when it was on PS2 so graphically Im not impressed.
What I do like is the online and co-op and merc system and have been waiting for these things since game 1. The team concept is a good idea but probally could use some more player testing and the instruction manual would beniefit from 5 more pages (thus doubling the manual).
If you liked AC before #4 then you should like this game. Otherwise I dont think this game is going to get an outside, new to the series, player growth.
And double gatling guns are not cheap, the range I need to get to murder you with them is more than enough space for you to use your weapons to waste me. You cant call a rush attack with short range weapons cheap when you stand their and face me and then not move away.
See, i like the fast paced movement of AC4, being able to bounce between missiles and rockets rather than relying on the armour or defence to stop it.
However, i think i just prefer that style for the chaotic and frantic amusement More so when going through missions with just 2 blades.
Still got AC 1 and 2 here aswell for old times sake.
The problem with light ACs with dual blades in AC4/fa is that they actually lag the game online. You'll find most scrubs online in ACfa just spamming light bladers, since it lags the game to the point where you can't actually dodge or make some distance.
Additionally, it's not impossible to make a competitive fast/light AC. It just requires more thought than moving around really fast and spamming quickboost whenever something looks at you funny. You need to rely on your environment and focus on hit-and-run tactics.
Playing a fast AC actually takes skill now.
As for the graphics, it's something you have to expect with maps as big as AC5s and a system as weak as the PS3/360. AC4/fa's models looked good because there was very little to actually render in the environments, everything was flat and empty.

I've just been playing around with a light build, and it's really fun. More fun than in AC4/fa, since you actually have to be a lot more conscious of your environment and your enemies. You have to weave in and out of combat, using your higher maneuverability to hit enemies in the rear and then get out before they can turn around. Tanks tend to tear you to shreds in a moment if they can get line of sight to you, but if you don't let them, it'll never happen.
The build I'm testing right now:
AC Stunlock
Head: Raiko
Core: Agni
Arms: Gironde
Legs: Snowdon
The shotgun and battlerifle can put out plenty of damage, while the handguns give the AC its namesake. In team fights, the handguns are used to stunlock an enemy for an ally to easily dispose of. In duels, a handgun can be used to supplement either main weapon (depending on enemy resistances) by lowering their maneuverability to make it easier to hit, while also making it easier to get away by restricting enemy action during retreats.
The URD-36/ER recon unit makes the AC an excellent moving recon unit combined with its natural mobility, allowing the AC to function as reconnaissance support for teams. Addtionally, the weapon loadout can easily be modified for a very focused support roll by replacing the shotgun and battlerifle with a movement jammer and targetting gun. Combined with the stunlock of the handguns, such a loadout would make enemies easy prey for an ally with an ultimate weapon like the giant missile or cannon.
Aside from durability, the build's main issue is its lack of long range options, its low ammo, and low fire rate, which really hurt it in prolonged fights.
