Subject: Need some advice on Grey Knights. Making purchase list.

Howdy guys, I've finished up my 2000 points of Blood Angels (Flesh Tearers) mech list, at least for now, and have decided to work on another army. In my meta we have everything, 1 Vanilla SM, 4 Blood Angels, 2 Orks, 1 Tau, 2 Eldar, 3 IG, 1 Dark Eldar, 1 Chaos, 1 Space Wolves, 4 Tyranid and 1 Necron (though the Necron army hasn't been played yet as he's building off the old stuff he had). The only thing we don't have is Grey Knights. So I took it upon myself to open that can of worms. I've seen several builds and know the popular ones would be Draigo and terminator spam, Coteaz and henchment spam and Crowe and Purifier spam. Of all of these I like the Purifier spam list a bit better as you can see I deal with quite a few hordes. And it's going to be cheaper in the long run. My question really is this. My HQ will be Crowe, I'm thinking 2 venerable dreadnoughts with auto cannons and pysbolt ammo Maybe 3x10 man purifier squads with psycannons and halberds in rhino's For heavy I was thinking 2 razorbacks with 5 man purgation squads with 4 psycannons each basically using the razors as cover and the Razors adding more anti tank and a standard dread with auto cannons and psybolt ammo. I believe thats somewhere in the vicinity of 2000 points give or take some. My questions are the 10 man purifier squads... too much? Should I go with 5 and more rhinos? I could really use the S7 psycannons. What about the heavy choices? That would put 3 dreads on the board with psybolt A/C's. Plus 2 las cannons and TL-plasma. The purgation squads i like because I can take fewer of them and still have the psycannons. I've watched/read a few battle reports but I haven't seen something like this. Any help here would be great. Thanks, -Mordechai

I'd get all of the psycannons you can muster. They are gold even against 14 armor - 4-8 S7 rending shots Drop the razors and use rhinos. Two psycannons shooting out of there is all you really need. Don't forget the psybolt. I only run three psyriffle dreads. More than that seems to be wasted as there usually aren't that many decent fire lanes in a game. I'll usually throw in a hammer with each unit just incase we run into some nasty armor.

yeah I was going to make some room for a D-hammer or 2 just need to get home and rework the costs. Maybe it's because I play blood angels but not taking the razorbacks seems... blasphemous to me. Plus, if I'm behind an exploding vehicle I'm using for cover, it's a S3 hit not a S4 hit. I get your point though. Also the extra S9 shots is hard to get rid of.

Yeah, but with rhinos you can fit your entire squad in there and still have the punch of a razorback. Besides, GKs vehicles are very cheesy. Just wait until you start shrugging off shaken and stirred damage results. Very cheesy. The only thing that's hard to find in our armies is melta. Unless you do a inquisitor list with a bunch of little dudes who can't shoot the side of a barn the only places you'll see it is on storm ravens and dreads.

If you look around at some of the lists, purifier spam tends to go with 5 man squads in rhinos. The reason for this is that the rhino only has two firing points, therefore you can only ever fire the two psycannons max (two per 5 man squad). A list would be something like this.
HQ Crowe 150
Inquisitor psychostroke grenades, powersword 50
Troops
Purifiers (5) 2xpsycannon, 2xhalberd, 1xDaemonhammer, rhino 189
Purifiers (5) 2xpsycannon, 2xhalberd, 1xDaemonhammer, rhino 189

Dreadnought TLACx2, psybolt. 135

Total 2000
This would be a pretty competitive 2000 points purifier spam list. Now the question is, do you like spam? personally I hate lists like this, but is certainly competitive.
If you still want purgation squads, I would modify the list slightly by doing this:
HQ Crowe 150
Troops
Purifiers (5) 2xpsycannon, 2xhalberd, 1xDaemonhammer (MC), rhino 204
Purifiers (5) 2xpsycannon, 2xhalberd, 1xDaemonhammer(MC), rhino 204

Heavy
Purgation squad (5) 4x psycannon,rhino 220
Purgation squad (5) 4x psycannon, rhino 220
Purgation squad (5) 4x psycannon,rhino 220
Total 1996
You would have a ton of psycannons (20), in a vacuum that's 80 strength 7 shots from them if stationary lol, not likely to happen but that is a crazy amount of psycannons and you still have two resilient dreadnoughts for that long range fire support.
Personally, I think the first list is more competitive, but the second list would still be extremely powerful against most lists. Anyways, hope that helped a bit.

I like the second list. The first is too... I dunno... Dreadnaughty
What about the knight of the flame? Would you upgrade him? Or just leave him as is and not waste the points as he's perils fodder?
I've also been thinking of taking a Vindicare as well.

I think that the 2nd lists purigation squads should take incinerators rather than psycannons as they are really, really good.

Yeah but not nearly the range or rending or strength. I would intend on having them sit on the deployment line or just behind sending S7 hell down field.

I'm using his first list but I'm not going to use the extra inquisitor and I'm adding 1 more grey knight to every squad and I have a 5 man strike squad in my 5th rhino.

To be honest, the inquisitor that I put in the list is just extra points, you can spend those how ever you want but the core of the list still remains intact.
Secondly, although I agree incinerators are great on purgation squads, the OP wanted psycannons so I made a list with them to their max potential which would still be effective.
I agree that the first list has too many dreadnaughts too and therefore I am not a fan of it, but it is what is currently competitive so I thought I would put it in.
