My latest work, a eldar avengers, is completely out of the traditional blue color scheme, I wanted to give a touch of originality so I decided to follow more or less the colors of Saim Hamm. For the rest I love the concept of race backdrop of declining Eldar so I love to paint austere, without too many frills, to represent this idea. The bases are of course Field Factory

These look great, I'm also currently painting up my Siam Hann Eldar and the red you have looks similar to what I've done.

I also found the various aspects being different colours and not fitting with the whole army a bit annoying. Instead I choose to paint the shoulders red to match with the other units in the army.

I like the colours used on the gun. What paints have you used?

Personally I love the traditional blue look but I must say you managed to pull off the Saim Hamm look very well. Shading is perfect. Makes for a clean contrast and a very crisp paintjob.

Well done.

Kudos to the crisp, white paintjob (I hate white!). These are an awesome red paint scheme.

My only criticism is that none of the gems are, well, gem-like, but I don't blame you for not doing them like that simply because it's a pain in the pooper.

Nice work

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I'm going the same route, though. I find that if you paint all the round nodules as "gems", it clutters the model. I try to only pick a choice few, and the rest are just bumps in the armor.

Really thanks for the comments guys.

I use all time paintings from Vallejo Game Color, and in weapons "Leather brown" + "skull white"

Wonderfully crisp painting

I usually like to see more details picked out on minis, but in this case I think they might actually detract from the overall effect!

Keep up the good work (and the posts on here natch)!

Crisp, clean painting.
However, you will encounter a consistence criticism of having a Eldar model where you have not even attempted to paint the gems. There is also no highlights on the black feathering / hair on top of the helm. I also am not a fan of the brown around the trim of the edges. Unless it goes with a display board some how, i'd change that color, it distracts the eye from the model as its a non complementary color for the red, grey, white, black primary colors.

If that's for a comission, you should gem them up, as Eldar players will expect to see that. Also any paint judges at any grand tournments will not give you full marks without gem work. I know it sounds minor, but you'd end up probably without any scored points for detail work as you missed the opportunities on the gun and armor. You would score points for having a clean, nice to look at model, and nice base work. So you'd probably be sitting at a 12 / 18 for a model which should be higher.

Lastly, you reference you love the idea of a race "without the frills." The Eldar gems contain the soul of the race in the armor. Think Space Elves. They are very mystical. If you referenced that reason at a event, most paint judges on veterans, they wouldn't believe you.

Really hate the Eldar painted with all the gems as gems, I like having only one painted on the armor, just to represent that this is one that contains the soul.

definitely a different take on the avengers. I like the clean, crisp look of your painting style. The red armor and white helms are real smooth. The bases also look great....perfect tones to compliment the red. Great work

I like the clean look and alt colour scheme, very nicely done! I have to agree that there are far too many "gems" on the models for them all to be painted without it looking cluttered.

My god, tournament painting judging sounds like it contains more nitpicking and petty-mindedness than a local council meeting.
