Hi!

On the picture above, you can see an example of my Genesis Chapter marines. I do a Mechrite Red base, washed with Badab Black and then highlighted with a thinned layer of Blood Red. From what I've read, Mephiston Red has a different shade of red than Mechrite and therefore might cause inconsistencies. I still have half of the army unpainted, therefore I ask:

Should I stock up as much Mechrite Red as possible to finish my army?

Or will I be able to replicate the Mechrite shade with new colors (Mephiston Red or perhaps Khorne Red)?

Please help, my chapter is desperate

I can't speak for Khorne red as i've not used it, but their recommended substitute for Mechrite red, Mephiston red, is not even a remote match. It is far lighter, and a truer mid-red than any of their previous reds are.

If you want a consistent army then you will either have to stock up on the paints you used, restart from scratch with the new ones, or do a lot of fannying around trying to mix your own colours in bulk.

It's up to you really....

Don't worry about stocking up. The new base red paint looks just like Mechrite and goes on easier.

I reckon the paints thing is just an elaborate early april fool to get people to buy a vast amount of paint very quickly

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Sorry mate, but no it doesn't. It is not in the slightest bit a suitable match for Mechrite. It is very noticeably different, and if the OP was to use the new paints, his new units would look significantly different.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll get few pots of Mechrite Red asap so I can finish my army.

I'd pick up as much mech red as I could. The match is not exact and you'll be able to tell when 1/3 of your army is just a little off in color.
I personally have already done this.
