Hi, a friend of mine is always using the Bloodthirster. I have thought a good way to kill this Greater Daemon, do you know any good (almost fail proof) ways that any army can kill it?

For example:

In a Slaanesh Daemon Army, you need:

Greater Daemon of Slaanesh
A big block of Daemonettes
The Masque
A Herald of Slaanesh or two (one is BSB with Great Icon of Despair)

The tactic:

The Herald forces the Bloodthirster to charge him and his big unit (with the Great Icon of Despair he is at -2 LD now)

In the Shooting Phase the Masque reduces his Leadership by D3.

A Herald (with Allure of Slaanesh) Challenges the Bloodthirster, now he must pass a Leadership test on LD 4 - 6.

Assuming he fails, he'll loose combat by 5. So he'll take a LD test again, if he rolls the average 7 on two dice he is dead.

For serious overkill give the Greater Daemon the 'Take all LD tests on 3D6'.

Sure he could just pass his LD test and slaughter the Herald, but most of the time he won't. And even if he does the Greater Daemon can make short work of him when he's on LD 6 or lower.

Does anyone know any other nasty tricks with any other Armies?

It's not a counter if you're spending more points than him.

I'd say just be a lot simpler. Like 3 Fiends of Slaneesh. They cost about 1/3 what he costs, can't be thunderstomped, and while they might not kill him, they can hold him there while others hit his flank/rear.

Flamers can do some dmg to him, though not sure if they can win per cost and it's a bit of a risk since he can fly.

Skulltaker can one-shot him in a challenge on 4 chances of 5+ and they got the same initiatve and he has to fight the challenge since he's alone. It's a gamble, though. If he goes first, he'll smush Skulltaker.

Once saw a mass of skinks down one, although thats a different army of course. Poisonous darts up the nose are not fun for a daemon.

Cheap infantry with a unit champion, especially if they have a ward save, completley stuff the Thirster. Challenge, send derp to the front, thirster rapes him for 4-5 wounds but kills him before thunderstomp, and thirster spends the rest of the game chewing through the block.

As a DoC player, the Thirster should provide no challenge to you. Toss any unit champ under the bus to him and he will lose to static. Every other GD, other than the Chicken, outfights him in close combat. Every single core block is dangerous to him.

If he has flaming attacks, a cheap character with the Dragonbane Gem and good strength can tie him up for eternity and possably kill him.

I don't know about throwing mass Docs vs. BT. You have to make them steadfast and that's an awful lot of points--otherwise they will be taking mass wounds from instability. He's going to win combat vs. the champ and get enough overkill to remove any rank bonus and he's the general. Thunderstomp still goes off, I haven't seen anything that says it doesn't. (Though it's only for the purpose of Overkill which will likely easily get maxed.)

He can kill quite a few and likely will shrug off nearly everything except maybe bloodletters.

Then he's going to start smushing. Doc troops aren't skaven slaves, they are 12pts not counting the command. He's ensuring 450+ of his points don't get hurt and 300-something of yours gets held-up and/or killed.

GUO, level 4, balesword noxious vapours, on the charge your going first, get off the basic lore of nurgle spell and his stats drop to 1, hitting on threes so say 3 hit, auto wounds and D6 wounds each should kill him in one round of combat

That's pretty nasty as a monster killer. But he's going to counter your ONE spell.

And again, a hard counter isn't something that costs as much or more than something else. Which a GUO + Bale does + noxious is at least 550pts. That's like 9 ranks of Bloodletters who will also probably win.

Doomwheel... 150 Pts

50 Skaven Slaves w/ Shields 125 Pts (Won't kill him, but they'll hold him up long enough that you can get to killing the rest of his army) I have used slaves to quell many large beasties.

Necrosphynx - Toughness 8 is hard to crack, not to mention he can have the Heroic Killing Blow.. sure it's one attack, but it could work I suppose. Perhaps not a HARD counter, but a counter with such high toughness.

Another thing to note is how is he kitted out? Does he have Eternal Fury? More strength? What are his upgrades? This helps in making a good counter.. since you need to know exactly what you're countering.. although I usually advise against tailoring lists.

You don't see da eyes of da Daemon, till him come callin'

As an empire player (with the current rules) you can:

1)cannon
2)Mortar
3)steamtank
4)warrior priest w van horstmans
5)warrior priest with soulfire prayer
6)Wizard with lore of light and banishment

So yeah, plenty of ways currently. Hopefully most of that will still be possible when the new rules are out

Dire Wolf Champion challanges, Bloodthirster must accept, Dire Wolves lost combat but are steadfast(can only lose the champ in the challange)

It just ties the Thirster up for a turn or 2.

He's not going to fail and that's a lot of points to gamble. And a BT swings before anything in the Liz book and will likely kill whatever is unfortunate enough to be holding it.

But yeah, what 8th did is make mass blocks of infantry able to hold it up. The cheaper the better, as it's going to mulch its way through them.

Changeling doesn't get wounds or any other abilities. So again he's a gamble, but he's so cheap it's okay. And he can be in a block of Ward 4 Horrors who can basically sit there for quite a while.

Arch Lector
Armour of Meteoric Iron (if the Blood Thirster doesn't ignore saves, armour of Destiny if he does)
Van Horstmann's Speculum
Warrior Bane

Challenge
Lector has WS4 S6 T6 I9 A7
Blood Thirster has WS10 S4 T4 I4 A2

If the Lector inflicts one unsaved wound then the Thirster has 1 attack.

Hitting on 5s means that the Lector has a lower chance of hitting after the first round upon losing hatred, but with 7 attacks versus 1 there's a pretty good chance that the Lector will win.

If the Thirster takes obsidian armour it'll take a bit longer but should still be doable.
