I would hope they are planning it to be an RPG and not another shooter, still would have been interesting to se a WH40k MMO though...

If only Bioware was running it... Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium would be an awesome game if they worked their magic...

I am actually interested in this now I couldnt see an MMO working on the scale it needed to but this could work very well

This is probably the best news for this game I've heard. As an MMO it wouldn't have fared so well due to market saturation. I can most definitely see this working when BOTH Relic and Vigil are working on the title, and these guys really really know how to make a great single player experience.

I see this as a direct translation of them having no confidence in the customer base being anything other than warhammer fans.

Certainly makes it cheaper to play.

I was looking forward to seeing if they could make a decent 40k mmo, didnt have high hopes tho! This is certainly a safer option for them

kind of a let down were not getting that 40k MMO we've all no doubt been waiting for, but at least it isn't dead. a single player action game wont be bad at all

Aww man! And here I thought there was going to be an MMO worth my time!

I would say those producing it realized this IP could not translate to a genre like an MMO. I believe I said as much when this news first came to Dakka over a year ago. I would have to dig for the post as I don't remember all the specifics of my thoughts at that time.

I hate MMOs so I see this as a good thing. It will even have multiplayer

So, just Space Marine but w/ RPG elements now? ...and hopefully still multiple races. I guess I'd be down for that.

I read on some sites that this MMO -> RPG was a 'downgrade'.

This is great news. Rather than being yet another inferior WoW-wannabe that ToR ended up being, we can actually enjoy the effort THQ spend on this franchise.

I just hope this sudden change of genres mid-production from a Multiplayer Grinder to an actual Role-Playing Game doesn't force them to make a half-arsed story.

Ehhh. Most people would rather EA keep their hands off Warhammer property especially after they decided to steal the Baneblade and shove it into some Command and Conquer game for funsies.

Makes me sad to hear of layoffs at Relic. They've only made great games, and it's not really their fault their publisher is having issues. Since Relic are the only company that has ever done 40k justice in the computer realms, I'm hoping their doesn't hurt their ability to carry on doing so..

I was looking forward to this as well but the general idea was that it was an mmo using the graphics / models and playstyle similar to space marine... now its only a single player game expect spacemarine.2

Not overly interested in it now :/ like space marine it will if ever only see one time use. I get bored of single player way too easily.

Hopefully they'll expand the good parts of the Last Stand along with the Multiplayer fun of the latest Mass Effect game.

Well at least I might play it now, I swore off of mmo's I get far too into them then *BAM* there goes all the time I want to spend doing other stuff and in the end I just get frustrated with them.

I really do hope they manage to make it less linear than space marine if they are doing it as an RPG style game now, linear RPG's are usually single playthrough then back onto the shelf.

Honestly, between Guild Wars 2, Phantasy Star Online 2, and the pseudo MMO aspect of Armored Core V, this is good for me. I'm already committing myself to enough MMO titles as it is.

So long as I can play as an Inquisitor, all shall be right with the world. We don't need another Space Marine beat off.

Dark millennium built as a grimdark cross between Borderlands and Champions of Norrath would make my day. Gameplay only, I want an actual 40k storyline. And yes, I know those two games are quite similar-I love games set up in that form.

I just want a story that doesn't boil down to "Chaos" with the guy from Ancient Aliens meme.

I have mixed feelings over this, I did want an MMO, but I think this is the right move for relic......I love relic's games, and would hate to see them go out of business investing in a high budget MMO that might flop.........but an action RPG kinda thing would be pretty cool, hell....they might just change it to Space Marine 2.......not saying that I would want a Space Marine 2 right now, I would much rather a brand new game.
