This Battle Report is part of an ongoing campaign between Ork and Space Wolf forces. The links below will be updated as the battles take place. If you are just finding this for the first time I encourage you to take a look at the rules and previous installment. If you are a returning visitor, thanks for following the campaign.

Battle 5

Battle 2 - This Means War - Spearhead - Capture and Control - 1500 Points
Opposition encountered by landing party. Attack contingent sent to displace the enemy.

Winner of Battle 1 may choose to take first deployment and turn. If there was no winner, roll as normal for first deployment but the opponent may Seize the Initiative on a roll of 5+

Objectives in opposite corners, 12" from both long and short table edges. In the event of a draw, victor determined by killpoints.

Space Wolves won the first Battle, choose to deploy and go first

All structures are 4+ cover ruins, the white shapes are 4+ cover forests. The two sensor arrays represent the 2 Capture and Control objectives.

The armies are mostly plastic grey at the moment, but they have some hints of color and are being worked on.... slowly.

For the purposes of making my life easier, certain squad names are abreviated such as GH(WS) for Grey Hunters with Wolf Standard, and identical squads will be given a number such as Boyz(2) to differentiate them during the game.

Wolf Scouts and Gretchin are in reserve.

Turn 1 - Space Wolves

Rhino moves up quite a bit and pops smoke in front of a ruin. GH(M) Razorback moves up for a better shot. GH(F) stay put to hold the objective. Scaredy Cat Cavalry stay hidden in their ruins. GH(M) Razorback takes a shot at Trukk(2) (the grey one) and immobilizes it. The Predator follows with shots into Trukk(3) (the "looted" Rhino) but only manages to knock off some paint. The Long Fangs split fire and launch 2 Krak missiles into Trukk(3) immobilizing is and leaving it stunned as well. The remaining 3 are frag missiles launched at Lootas (2) in the building above the Ork objective, killing 1.

Turn 1 - Orks

Not to be outdone by the Wolves, the last mobile Trukk(1) fails its terrain test and gets stuck in the forest. Queue price_is_right_fail.mp3. The Battlewagon moves around behind a ruin to escape the Orky fence. Boyz(3) get out of there banged up ride and move into the forest nearby. The rest of da Boyz stay put. Lootas(2) roll 2 shots each and Fire at the Long Fangs. They kill 2 Missile Launchers and the Sergeant, but they Wolves pass their morale. Lootas (1) roll 2 shots each as well and fire at the GH(F) Razorback. They score a pen but AreTwo makes his cover save. Trukk(2) and the Boyz inside both fire a Rokkit at the same Razorback. They score another pen, but can't get through the cover save. Trukk(1) and the Boyz inside try the same trick, but can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Objectives: 1 controlled to 1 controlled. Killpoints: 0 to 0.

Turn 2 - Space Wolves

Wolf Scouts successfully come in, but botch their second roll and come on the worst board edge. TWC run forward around the ruin they were hiding in. the Rhinos and Razorback both move up 6 inches toward the enemy. Everyone else stays put. Long Fangs return fire on the Lootas(2) that tore them apart the first turn. 3 Frag Missiles kill 5 and send them running off the board. Payback is a bitch. The Predator fires at the other squad of Lootas(1) and heroically does nothing. The Razorback fires at Trukk(3) and blows off the Rokkit. The Rhino and 2 marines inside fire into the Boyz(3) in the forest but the greenskins are good at hiding and no one dies.

Turn 2 - Orks

Gretchin are too terrified to come onto the board and the Lootas(2) finish running off. The Battlewagon races forward 12" from behind the ruin towards the enemy objective. Boyz(2) get out of their ride and move forward. The remaining squad of Lootas(1) roll 2 shots each and fire at the approaching TWC but can't kill anything. Trukk(2) and Boyz(2) both fire their Rokkits at the Rhino, but send their shots wide. Trukk(1) follows with another Rokkit to no effect either. Boyz(3) in the forest let loose some dakka at the TWC and take a wound off the Wolf Lord. Boyz(1) shoot at the Rhino and stun it.

Objectives: 1 controlled to 1 controlled. Killpoints: 1 to 0.

Turn 3 - Space Wolves

Scouts run toward the fighting, and the TWC run towards their prey. The Razorback puts some fire into the Battlewagon to no effect. The Predator continues to look like a vindicator and continues to hit nothing. Long Fangs fire Frag Missiles into the remaining Lootas and kill nothing. TWC charge the poor boyz in the woods and kill everyone but the Nob. The Nob miraculously rolls snake eyes and sticks in combat. wanderingpeon needs the turn of shooting to kill the TWC and blows his Fate Point to reroll his morale test. This time the Nob fails and is properly run down.

Turn 3 - Orks

Gretchin come in and huddle around their objective. Orks need to make a big play this turn and call the Waaagh. Boyz(2) run to make room around the TWC. Battlewagon rolls up and dumps out a mob of green and metal. Lootas roll a clutch 3 shots each and fire at the TWC. Unfortunately they only score 1 wound. Boyz(1) lend more dakka and wound a second TWC. Meganobz and Ghaz and the Mek all fire at the TWC but to no effect. Trukk(1) and Trukk(2) both fire Rokkits at the big furries but neither are successful. Boyz(1), Ghaz, and the Meganobz all charge into the TWC. The Boyz charge first and keep most of the TWC from being able to hurt the Nobz. Barely any Boyz survive the initial onslaught. After the Meganobz strike back, only the Wolf Lord and the Thunderhammer TWC remain. The hammer is to far out of position to strike back. The Mek, and the remaining boyz fall to fearless wounds, but the Klaw Nob sticks around with 1 wound. Boyz(2) charge the Rhino which stayed put and wreck the hell out of it. The GH(WS) inside lose the Meltagun, the Mark of the Wulfen and the Wolf Guard, and then fail their pinning test. JUST AS PLANNED

Objectives: 1 controlled to 1 controlled. Killpoints: 3 to 1.

Turn 4 - Space Wolves

The Space Wolves are furious at the less of their brothers. The Predator fire at the Battlewagon but again can't manage any damage. The Razorback follows in kind but is unable to do anything either. The Long Fangs fire more Frag Missiles at the Lootas but they all scatter to no effect The GH(WS) stand up in their crater. The Wolf Lord cannot reach the Meganobz so in his anger he pulps the poor bastard with the Power Klaw. The Meganobz take down the last remaining TWC but he has his vengeance. His 4 attacks turn 4 Meganobz into corpses. As I understand things, since the TWC squad no longer exists, and the Wolf Lord and Meganobz are not in base, they are longer stuck in combat and the Meganobz consolidate. If this is in error please let me know.

Turn 4 - Orks

My notes are becoming less useful at this point but a Trukk fired at the GH(WS) and killed a marine. The remaining 2 Meganobz and Ghaz fire into the Lord and do nothing. The Lootas roll 2 shots each and and fire into the GH(WS) to little effect. The Battlewagon fires into the marines but kills nothing. The Boyz charge and wipe out the GH(WS) with few casualties. The Meganobz and Ghaz charge back into the Wolf Lord. The Lord puts all his fury into Ghaz and but Ghaz hangs on with 1 wound remaining. The two Meganobz and Ghaz hand the Lord something like 8 or 9 wounds. In an absolutely ridiculous display AreTwo saved every single freaking wound, wins combat, and runs down the 2 remaining Meganobz and Ghaz. MVP award right there folks. Lord consolidates towards the few remaining Boyz.

Objectives: 1 controlled to 1 controlled. Killpoints: 6 to 3.
Once again I was pretty deep in the booze and was more focused on watching the game than taking the pictures. I'll get them all one of these days I promise.

Turn 5 - Space Wolves

The Wolves carry forward with their new found momentum. The Razorback fires int the Battlewagon and destroys it. The Predator finally does something useful and wrecks one of the Trukks. The GH(M) fire into the Boyz but they are in cover and take no casualties. The Lord charges the Boyz and kills several, but they stick in combat.

Turn 5 - Orks

The remaining Lootas roll 1 shot each and shoot at the GH(M) to no effect. The Lord finishes mopping the floor with the remaining Boyz.

Objectives: 1 controlled to 1 controlled. Killpoints: 9 to 3

Turn 6 - Space Wolves

All living Space Wolves tactically retreat towards cover and their objective to prevent unnecessary death. Adding insult to injury, the Long Fangs fire Krak Missiles at another Trukk and wreck it.

Turn 6 - Orks

The Lootas fire at the Razorback and wreck it.

Space Wolves win 10 Killpoints to 4 and draw the objectives.

Bad luck for the orks. If I am keeping tally correctly he is down 2 - 0 now? Keep up the good work. The battle report is a fun and very well organized read.

I like the campaign idea, but dislike the all the gray plastic. For me it loses a little bit of the cinematics of it all.

Yeah, the Ghaz/Meganobz/TWC combat was astoundingly unlucky for wanderingpeon. I can't hit or wound to save my life, but damn if I can't make saves like a pro. Fortunately for him, he hasn't really lost much from his Force Roster, while I've have my two larger GH squads cut down to size, lost both of their Rhinos, as well as losing an early Land Speeder.
