I have recently come into the 40k scene and am building my first army, Salamanders.
(I had no previous knowledge of how the were on tabletop, I wanted Marines because im a fluff fanboy, and Salamanders because the are my favorite 1st founding.)

If I could get some suggestions as to organizing a small army, 750 to be precise, id be thankful.

this post is more to find out how to rock what I already have, rather then getting new stuff. I'm a poor wargamer after all.

currently have:
Vulkan
Jump Chaplin
10 Assault
10 tac
1 droppod
1 Ironclad Dreadnought, whose name is Burnicus. Burnicus is awesome.

picked up these models for more of a starting reason then any real strategy, although the dreadnought already has a grey knight kill count in the low 20's

Thanks Forum

Well, to make the most of these models, I'd run the jump chaplain with the Assault Marines, the Dred in the Drop pod, and I'd get a rhino for the tacs.
I'd also suggest getting more tacs, and another rhino, and leaving space in there for Vulkan.

Fluff wise, i'd outfit your tac marines with melta guns, and probably melta bombs on your assault marines.

I'd also consider a multi melta on burnicus.

To recap, two rhinos, 10 moar tacs. Meltas everywhere, and you should have a workable backbone for your army.

Im afraid Ironclads cant get multi-meltas. Options are DCCWs and huricane bolter, with optional underslung storm bolt, melta, or heavy flamer(up to two) on ccw

maybe get two DCCW's with heavy flamers under both since you have vulkan?

Vulkan runs really, really, really well with Terminators packing Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields coming out of a Land Raider. You could outfit your tacticals with a melta/flamer and the sgt with with a combi-flamer/melta as well if you wanted to. Not a big fan of the assault marines for codex marines but in a nutshell you cannot go wrong with Flamers, Meltas, and THammers with Vulkan, he is a beast in a fist fight and makes your army really consistent in terms of hitting things.

For the smaller games ive played so far the assault marines have held there own, but im not trying to go tourney with them, i am considering assault terminators and land raider, but 120$ is a lot to spend right now, still, i agree with everything you've said

Vulkan and vanilla marines in general need higher points to have an equal footing.

Trying to use what you have I say play Vulkan anyway, he is hard. It will get you used to his rules. He will also be most of your points.

Agreed, cannot get much better than Vulkan for 190 pts of awesome.

My only issue with the Assault Marines is that with Vulkan you really are not getting any advantage out of them. They cannot take a Thunderhammer or Melta which leaves you with just the flamer I believe (which isn't so bad). If you are set on the Assault Marines why not try em as vanguard vets, you could at least put a Thunderhammer in the squad (though you'd be giving up the flamer). I almost feel like the Thunderhammer would be a little better considering you are probably using the assault squad for melee anyways.

Nonetheless, once you get em the terminators/landraider will be some good bread and butter for the Vulkan-ator.

Find more Tactical Marines, get some Assault Terminators for the thunderhammer bonus. Possibly some Land Speeders, they don't necessarily line up 100% with the fluff but I can't see a Salamanders army turning down that many extra heavy flamers and multi-meltas.

I should add if you are looking for new models then spam melta and flamers. Then maybe take assault termies in a raider. You should also take some long range threat so a pred. or 2 could come in useful.

Librarian would be the best HQ for low points but you would obviously invest more money.

In 4th edition you could only take one landspeeder, because of the higher gravity on nocturne they were impractical. However in the books, they use a landspeeder for training scouts, so if they give the newbs one of those I want one too, lol. Also I personally am offended when someone tries to say the salamanders are slower than other space marines, living and training on a higher gravity world should make you stronger.

Defo 2 flamers in the 10 man assault squad. But only consider taking them if you take Vulkan in you list, they aren't the greatest.

Tact squad should look a little like: Flamer, MM, Combi-Melta.

Ironclad + Drop Pod = WIN

Next investment -> Rhino

Hope that helps
