Hey folks,
I am hoping to have my FULL green tide army completly painted and fieldable by early summer. I am looking for tactical advice on the 180 mushroom march...

The bones of the crew will be
1x BM KFF
3x 29 Shootas + Nob PK/BP (+/-Rokits)
3x 29 Sluggas + Nob PK/BP (+/-Rokits)

I have more stuff but that's the basic structure.
I am curious if you have any advice on how to advance or to deploy.

Here's a poor picture of what I am thinking for a DoW deployment...

T1:
___Shoota(walk/shoot)_____________Shoota(walk/shoot)_______________Shoota(walk/shoot)____
__________________________________KFF (walk)_______________________________________
___Slugga(walk/run)_______________Slugga(walk/run)_________________Slugga(walk/run)______

T2:
___Shoota(w/s)__Slugga(w/r)____Shoota(w/s)_KFF(w)_Slugga(w/r)________Shoota(w/s) _Slugga(w/r)
__________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________

T3:
__Shoota(w/s/a)_Slugga(w/s/a)_Shoota(w/s/a)_KFF(w/s/a)_Slugga(w/s/a)_Shoota(w/s/a) _Slugga(w/s/a)
__________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________

I thought that with the sluggas getting screened by the shoota mobs on T1 would maximize the number of assault attacks, and that the whole tide will crash into enemy lines at once.

Thoughts?

PS: 50/50 slugga shoota mix is WYSIWYG. Proxy ok but non-negotiable in WYSIWYG tourneys.

Don't blob your units. Congo-line them. It's much easier to get cover saves in congo-lines, and means its harder for you to be multi-assaulted.

Buy a unit of 19 grots + 1 runtherder for 67 points to act as your 4+ cover save. It's cheaper than a KFF mek and gives a 4+ cover save to those ork boy's congo-lined behind it.

I strongly advise snikrot and krew. In a green tide list they can add an element of surprise.

Shoota boys edge out over slugga boys IMHO. In today's army meta there is a lot to be said about an 18" assault 2 STR 4 gun.

You might want to also consider some outflanking deffkoptas to take down transports. Your boys need to crack open the shell to get at the candy inside. Assaulting a rhino only means your boys will be assaulted.

You want to use those outflankers/snikrot because you will quickly find that board space becomes a problem with 180+ boys unless you are extremely bunched up -- which is a bad thing for your army.

Green tide armies are, at their heart, kill point denial lists. Your goal is to be hard to dislodge by having 180+ bodies to kill. 30 boys is very hard to kill from shooting in cover. In assault its easy to lose your boys to fearless saves. Therefore, you might not want to charge armies.

On a similar note -- the game is not about killing the other players models, its about KPs and objectives. Always play to the game, and not just try and kill models. The last thing you want to do is re-enact world war one and charge a gunline.

Warbosses are still really good buys. Even though they can be ID'ed by force weapons, against many armies they are still worth their points in gold.

@LM42:
Haven't done the Conga line deployment yet... seems smart though. I think the Grots take up a troop choice if I'm not mistaken though don't they? Surely not "elites?" I've considered Snikrot.

What I DON'T have for the orks are:
Snik, Maddok, Ghaz, LWs, WB, Lobbas, FGs, DD, Grots.

What I DO have:
9 Kans, 180 boyz, 20 exrta nobz (doomed), 2 painboyz, 10 bikers, 6 koptas, 2 trukks, 3 battle wagons, 15 lootas, 1 SAG, 1 WarBoss, 1 BikerBoss, 2 KFF... and I'm sick of painting green.

Do 5 squads of 30 w/ kan/loota backup.

But yeah, conga lines work well, and gretchin are great, cheap objective holders

@LM42: Oh and I prefer shootas too.

@Zid: So if I do a grot wall, do you have an HQ pref with this list then? Also, with 180 boyz, I don't think holding objectives will be a big issue.

Well, first of all, you have a ton of orks, and you cna run a number of different builds. That's really nice.

Back on track -- one of the best things about the ork army is not needing to use the correct models. I've used hurricane bolters from a crusader to make lootas, I've built nobs with SM power fists. Basically anything goes with orks, and noone is going to call you on it. They will even say your extremely "creative!"

So make your own snikrot. Just take 13 slugga boys and call em 'kommandos'. Get 2 burnas. If you don't have burna models, get a few IG flamers from a local IG player -- they will have tons as every box of troops comes with one and their using MGs or PGs. Take an ork boy and have him dual wield imperial flamers.

If you don't want to paint more models, i don't blame you. You don't need grots, but you might want to consider something other than more boys, as you will soon run into space issues.

So are you not bringing the 9 kans? Are you finding that their just dying to quick? Grot shooting is some of the best you can get.

As was mentioned, some lootas are great for cracking armor. Taking two squads of 3 koptas can also crack some armor.

For your HQ, I would bring a warboss and maybe a BikerBoss (attached to a squad or coming in with snikrot).

@LM2:
The Kans come depending on the point level. My idea with the green tide is to use the low cost of boyz more strategically. I can field 181 models, fully kitted at about 1700 points and have some left over. I am effectively limiting my opponent's ability to bring his deathstar units by forcing him/her to deal with the sheer volume of models. Although I am not a very experienced 40k player, but it seems like even the Ward Codex lists will have trouble with them at that point level. And "I think" that 200+ S4 shots will likely kill more than a few of my opponents S5 pie plates per turn, or a melta list.

As I mentioned, your talking about a KP denial list. Its hard to kill that many boys.

However, you won't get all 200 STR 4 shots in range every turn. Right? You will get some shooting, and a lot of shooting when you do get shooting but your not going to be shooting all the time. The goal is to survive.

Your right, many armies will have a hard time dislodging you, however there are also some armies that excel at it. For example, your boys will have a very hard time vs clensing flame, or wolf lords, or bezerkers. Basically anything that can handle lots of incoming STR 4 attacks causes you problems, as you will lose assault and lose lost of models to fearless wounds.

So oddly enough, assault can be the one area where your army can be destroyed. Through shooting its very, very hard to shift that big of an army.

@LM42: You think more shootas than sluggas then?
