OK, so I've completed a 1250 list for my Grey Knights and am moving to imperial guard. After looking over the codex this is what i have come up with, advice is always welcome.

Hq's
Company command squad
- lascannon
- vox
-Chimera w/ ML, HF 130pts

Lord Commissar w/ power weapon
-He will be joining the combined squad. 80pts

Troops
veteran squad
-melta x3
-powerweapon
-Chimera ML / HB 160pts

veteran squad
-melta x3
-power weapon
-Chimera ML / HB 160pts

Infantry Platoon

platoon command squad
-vox 35pts

infantry squad
-vox
-power weapon
-autocannon 75pts

infantry squad
-power weapon
-autocannon 70pts

The two infantry squads will be one combined squad.

Heavy Weapons squad 105pts
-3x lascannon

Heavy Weapons squad 75pts
-3x autocannon

Heavy Support 180pts
Leman russ demolisher
-lascannon

Leman russ demolisher 180pts
-lascannon

Plan is to seize ground with the vets, backed up by the leman russ battle tanks. Further supported by the hailstorm of support fire from the infantry platoon.. I figure with 20 other wounds around him the lord commissar has the greatest survive-ability with the combined infantry squad.

If you're new to the guard and looking for advice, he's the best you'll get. Don't listen to what people say about certain things being good/not good because you don't want this or that or that certain things are not competative or overcosted.

In my mind, the IG is the most customizable army out there and has the most surprising power iin the simplest things. For me, in my all footguard list, the best points investment to me are my stormtroopers, not just as a suicide tanks squad, but because they let me drop BS4 guys with 2 special weapons anywhere. When I run an "in your face" mixed force, I find that the Leman Russ punisher is the most usefull tank. I also like heavy weapon squads because that's one less thing shooting at my Chimera's or the heavy weapon squads get to shoot. I like flamers becuase they don't roll to hit and that kind of reliability is important with guardsmen. I also find the regular commissar is often, but not always more useful than a lord commissar because he let's you decide when combat will end; but the Lord commissar can be the most useful choice in the codex in the right place at the right time. Also, most important of all, massed lasgun fire is the most powerful weapon in your arsenal.

Seeing your list, my advice would be to look at what the regular commissar gives you instead of the lord. The lord let's you move the stubborn bubble around, but can be targeted, while the regular one will only die if too many wounds are done to your "blob" or YOU want combat to end. Also, your PCS has no speacial or heavy weapons.

Prepare yourselves for the onslaught men. The enemy is waiting, but your Officers are courageous and your bayonettes sharp! I have at my disposal an entire army of Muskokans, tens of thousands of armour and artillery supporting millions upon tens of millions of the Imperium's finest fighting men with courage in their bellies, fire in their hearts and lasguns in their hands. Emperor show mercy to mine enemies, for as sure as the Imperium is vast, I will not!

hi there,

a good list I think. no weak spots sofar.

the two veteran squads might or might not suffice for taking the targets so that´s the only think I would think about: rotating in a third mobile element and dumping one static.

good choice with the demolisher, opponents get edgy when seeing them
