Title says it all.
I think out of my hundreds of minis, all I got painted is 4 cadian guardsman. Oh and a minotaur from warhammer quest.
I never based anything...(not that I have a lot that is ready to be based)
Do you guys use plasticard ?
Already based bases ?
Simply apply some texture ?
Any tips ?
Thanks guys !

I nomally PVA sharp sand onto the base and then paint and flock. However as there are so few minis per team I would personally invest in sculpted bases. There are plenty out there like http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/tech-c-3_26.html , http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/wargames-bases-basing/25mm-round-bases.html
You can also add tufts of grass from woodland scenics if you want some good ideas here http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/wargames-bases-basing.html

I've been wondering about this too.... do the studio models have three dimensional base details like plasticard or something, or is it just painted?

Some is just paint most is custom bases. Third party bases work great, just watch out for too thick of bases as some companies don't pay attention to this when molding. A third part base a lot of times will require you to cut off the model's slat and pin the feet into the base.
I do my own out of greenstuff, but you can also use a wood glue/sand mix compound, glue and flock on top, etc etc. Lot of different options out there.

And where do you get your basing supplies ?
Those from Games-Workshop seems way to expensive for what it is.

Not sure about canada but Hobbylobby is where I get mine from. Woodland Scenic has pretty much everything that is needed for basic.
Get a giant jug of wood glue from a hardware store. You will find infinite uses for the stuff.

That's what I think too but ...
Overseas Orders that are over 6kg, but less than 8kg, will be sent Free if the total of AW brand products is £100 or greater.
I guess what I'll order won't really weight more than 8kg...but what if ? =P

I certainly agree that the Infinity models offer a great chance to take the time and make cool bases for the minis.
I've sort of taken the opposite approach though. All I'm doing is sanding the bases and doing my basic urban drybrush with a bit of snow.
This is for 2 reasons really.
1)I like the way it looks. And it gives me a quick base that looks good.
2)It allows me to put the focus entirely on the model. No other clutter.
But really it's just because I don't want to spend the time waiting for special bases and whatnot. I want to get right to painting the awesome models.

So you base before you paint ?
Do you base before gluing the mini to it ?

There should be some WIP pictures on the Blog in my Signature.
My process is this.
Assemble mini on base. Fully glue together mini.
Apply glue and sand, base mini.
Prime Mini.
Paint base.
Paint Mini.
Varnish.
Snow.
Pat self on back!
That's it in a nutshell. I'm one of the weird ones who paints his bases first, with his models still on them and everything.

Some of the things I have done in the past...
Using Starbucks wooden stir sticks to make a hardwood base.
Woodglue/sand mix with rocks for a earth look
How I do my infinity, with greenstuff. The bricks are formed with the eraser end of a pencil. Remove the eraser and sape the metal like a brick then go back through and cleanup/add detail.

@Von Skyfury - Thanks! My basing is super simple. Basecoat Adeptus Battlegrey. Overbrush of Codex Grey. Drybrush Astronomicon Grey.
Bluedagger has some right cool stuff. He's a good act to follow if you want some nice looking bases.

While I certainly admire good basing, it's not something I find myself ever willing to do. I like my bases to simply represent a battlefield, and give a unifying theme to an army. My Tyranids are based as if they're on a muddy battlefield. My Haqqislam as if they're in a desert (this is actually pretty easy to do nicely). My Vampire Counts will be based as if they're marching across a plain.
It completes the model without distracting from it, and unifies the army.

This is, from what I read, especially true of Micro Arts' bases for Infinity - they are allegedly way too thick!
I was just about to buy some from The Warstore too, so I'm glad I found this out before I bought them...

Yes the MAS ones are probably almost twice thickness of the standard bases. That being said, they are fantastically detailed - I've mixed them in amongst other bases, and when you look at the team as a whole it looks OK (in fact, more of a 'display' kind of look). Depending on the terrain you play on, I don't think it should make much difference in game (and I guess you can just ignore LoS that can only see the tip of the head).
