Sacrifice to the Dark Gods

I am builing a chaos army, well rebuilding from what I once had. Anywho I currently have about 3500 points of guys and about 1000 more points worth of proxies, such as some space marine models that i just made chaosy anyways so my question is what should i focus on and what is you alls opinion on proxies? Such as I have a stormraven gunship that i have turned to chaos if I have all the information from its appropriate codex and its a sense making proxie IE Space marines to Chaos and associated vehicles. Would anyone shed some light? I think people would understand considering everyone else has a plethora of vehicles and aircraft aswell as multiple armies in the case of the space marines. Will chaos ever get anything like that or will we be stuck wiyth stolen SM gak? Espoecially stuff i have seen used in Canon

You would think so, but alas, they aren't so good at stealing, at least according to the codex, or else they'd have storm bolters and whirlwinds, too...

If you're using a Stormraven, you're not playing Chaos.
If you want to use one, use a codex that contains it.

Maybe, maybe not.
Depends on the person and situation.
I personally wouldn't have a problem with it(but you would have to swap PotMS for Daemonic Posession) and you let me use some non-codex units.
In general, you can only use what is in your codex.

Thats what I mean. Obviously not for tournament use. But I am building an entire backstory for my army altogether and my figuring is Chaos space marines... They really dont build alot of their own stuff (depending upon warband of course) so we raid a SM or Imperial depot why would we take all the vehicles and use them against their creators? I love the Stormraven but I hate the blood angels. Now what about the simpler. would anyone have an issue with someone using Space Marines in a Chaos space marine army?

Blood Angels (Bangels)
Sounds like a mostly space marine force you're trying to make, why not just use the Bangels codex to represent the force? You can have your StormRaven and Space Marines, and saves trying to mix things from different army books. Just a thought.

Was just a suggestion. As mentioned before you'll just have to get your opponents permission to mix army books.
Personally I wouldn't mind in a friendly game.

Alright. Well thats why I was asking since yes, I am mixing army books, but you gotta admit at least I was keeping it realistic i mean i have seen people playing necron and try to explain why they had eldar and tau units in there.

You can do whatever you like as long as your opponent agrees. Most people expect an opponent to pick an army from one codex at any given time.

Make sure your opponent knows and agrees before hand. Very few people would be happy to agree to non-codex units in a pick up game.
Also beware that your opponent will most likely say "okay, as long as I can do the same" and could then field some truly devastating combinations.

If you are dead set on the storm raven, but want to run everything from one codex, I too second running your Choas Space Marines using Blood Angels instead.
Assault Squads => Khorne Bezerkers with Jump Packs or a transport.
Sanguinary priests => Dudes with Icons giving the gifts of chaos to those around them.
Death Company => Possessed Marines
To be honest, the Blood angels make a decent stand in for Word Bearers.
You can get a Captain Level Chaplain (reclusiarch) and several lieutenant chaplains.
You get good stand ins for icon bearers and possessed
The only thing you do not have is a good unit to stand in for summoned daemons.

See I'm starting to like that idea. Since my backstory isI was a loyalist chapter that turned to chaos so I can easily say that my army was loyalist and base them off the BA codex. Claiming that my army was a BA offspring that succumbed to chaos thus allowing me to keep the 4000pts of chaos I already have and still be baleto implement drop pods and the stormraven. right?

Sounds reasonable. As long as your units are armed properly so that your opponents aren't confused, it should work fine.

If you opponent agrees then of course its fine. The thing is if you win and you're using things out side of your codex it's just going to seem like you're doing it for the advantage and it's unfair. If you're losing then it defeats the purpose of taking it right?
You could always just play counts as blood angels.

Fixture of Dakka

Just use the idea of a "sideboard". Now these are custom rules, but it is reasonable because your opponent can do it also (just ask him for permission in advance).
An example of a sideboard is, let's say you play a 1500pt game. Then you have the option to pick 500pt from another codex (or your own codex) as a "sideboard" unit. It still has to obey FOC requirements (i.e. thus, no taking 6 heavy support choices). In this case, the maximum for your secondary army can be no more than 500pts (or whatever limits you guys specify) for a total of 2000pts (1500 base + 500 sideboard). Just make sure your base army is FOC-legal so that if you guys decide not to run the sideboard, you still have a legal 1500 army you can run.
If you want to run a stormraven with your chaos forces, you can specify a 1750 base army with a 250 sideboard (or whatever you guys agree upon).

Taking stuff from different codexes is not "proxy" models - it's creating a homebrew codex.
Taking things from different codexes has a tendency to be extremely unbalanced. Units are pointed based on how they fit into the army's structure, all of the codexes have strengths and weaknesses but it's very easy to cancel those weaknesses out by combining codexes.

I don't like proxing because it complicates what units have what, it's easier to look at the model for what he has not your army list. Yea, proxing is useful at times when necessary but I try to stay away as much as possible.
