I was reading something somewhere, I don't really remember but what caught my eye and lead to the creation of this thread was that I saw someone said that the video game 40k spacemarine that came out for the 360/PS3 was set in a alternate timeline/dimension and had no ramifications on the 40k lore of the world in regards to the table top game.
I'm curious as to why this was necessary given the large universal scale of 40k. What was different? So different enough to warrant it's own universe and it not just being another happening in the long list of events that is 40k.

Judging by the content of the game that really shouldn't have been necessary. Everything that happened seemed to be pretty localized and didn't "rock the boat" so to speak of established Canon.

Its mostly because of the main character being a captain of the Ultramarines chapter, and iirc, took over Sicarius' job.

Oh I see. Personally I would get more enjoyment out of it if it was connected to the actual source material and it would of been nice if they worked captain Titus into the lore somehow. But I guess I ask for to much lol

I've heard it speculated that Titus was the commander of the 2nd Company before Sicarius got the job.

Unsure on it's validity; but the position of Captain Titus in the heirarchy of the Ultramarines was pretty much the only thing that was a bit "off" with the fluff, and not even that "off" either.

Given the end of the game I can see him being replaced in the heirarchy by Sicarius. Were the events of the game ever given a time line? Year and what not?

The timeline is after Retribution, which itself was after a Tyranid attack of some sort.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
