We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Dungeonbowl. This online only game is played with characters from Games Workshop's renowned Blood Bowl world.
Dungeonbowl is the next exciting Blood Bowl experience, set in the fantasy American Football inspired game world already adapted as a video game by Cyanide. The key difference between Dungeonbowl and Blood Bowl as is rather obvious from the name, is that Dungeonbowl is played in a dangerous dungeon!
The wizards created the Dungeonbowl as they wanted to know which Magic College was the most powerful. The game introduces some subtle modifications to the standard Blood Bowl rules. A match is still played between two teams, but each side is composed of three races. For example, the roster of a Rainbow Wizards team contains Wood Elves, Halflings and Humans. The second difference is that the first team to score a touchdown wins the match. This task is made significantly more difficult by the fact that the ball is hidden in one of six treasure chests, five of which are booby-trapped with an explosive spell. Last, but by no means least, movement within the dungeon is both facilitated and complicated by teleporter pads. These allow players to magically zap from one position to another; a mishap, however, can lead to a player being zapped out of the match. As with Blood Bowl, the game is driven by dice and each player plays in turn.
Dungeonbowl continues Cyanide's successful collaboration with Games Workshop and their rich and varied Blood Bowl world. The gameplay should therefore delight existing Blood Bowl fans as well as offer a gateway to this zany parody of Warhammer®and American Football for fans of tactical sports gaming.
Dungeonbowl is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2012 and will be available on the Windows PC.
Freki Administrator of official Bloodbowl Forum wrote:As we cannot keep the secret any longer, here is what we may confirm you will find in the next edition of Blood Bowl. However, please remember everything isn’t set in stone yet, and while some websites already publish information, these may be modified in the near future.
For the moment, I can confirm that there will be a new stadium and 3 additional races, including:
- The Underworld
- Chaos Dwarfs,
- And Daemons of Khorne, who have been specially developed for this edition.
I hear you thinking, but rest assured, this new race is being balanced to respect the rules of the game and to not be overpowered, when compared with other races (Halflings don’t count!)
- 2 new star players
Of course, similarly to what we did for the Legendary Edition, a special offer and a preferential price is planned for current players of Blood Bowl, but final price hasn’t been decided yet. As for the release date, it has yet to be determined, but I believe you might have to wait till after this summer.
As soon as I have more information, I’ll be sure to let you all know!

Slanns aren't here because of the GW fluff direction... they just don't want to have running, jumping, croaking "young" Slanns playing BB, even with the explanation given in the rules.

Aside from the bandwidth theft from deeplinking to those images, thanks!
I'm a little surprised BB was popular enough to get this expansion, but I'm glad they went with Dungeonbowl rather than trying something different

Mildly interested in this (more interested in the Chaos edition).
More interested in the implications it has for a potential DungeonBowl one-off GW box (which has been hinted on since... forever).

GW coordinating releases with anyone else is not happening, not even with Black Library.
That said, by coincidence a BB box this autumn could happen.

Will be concerned about how it plays, but even after the flaws in the Blood Bowl game, Dungeonbowl might be too much of a fantasy/dream game to give up on. Will be watching the news on this one.

What flaws i nthe BB game? The worst problem I've seen with it is that it plays faster than the TT version, which leads you to make goofy moves a lot more often, and you play a lot more games, which also skews your view. The worst thing about it is that BB (like every other GW game) was not designed for hardcore internet leagues where people play 5 games a day. That really will skew your view, just based on the law of averages. I'm not enticed by the "new" rainbow leagues which were played on FUMBBL ages ago, but the new "Dungeons" are interesting, though I am curious how they will play out. Traps based on rolls based on player stats would be interesting, as would things like landmines that blow up everyone in the area. Just gotta see how it plays out. In any case, as a fairly hardened internet blood bowl player, I am interested, though probably not 50$ interested.

The problem with the first BB game was that the AI appeared to cheat horrifically, pulling off moves and rolls that just wouldn't happen, or at least would only happen once in a blue moon in real life, on a regular basis. The Legendary Edition seemed to exacerbate this issue. I played it for a while and got so pee'd off with the opposition making every single clutch dodge roll or hail mary pass that I gave up. Allowing the AI to cheat is not an acceptable way to increase the difficulty level IMO - it just made a good game incredibly frustrating and tedious to play, especially for someone like me, who doesn't/didn't play online. When you see an agility 2 (or whatever it is) skeleton making dodge rolls and dancing around a defence like Fred Astaire, it tends to stretch one's credulity. Sure, it may happen once in a while but the AI seems to make that kind of play time and time again and always coincidentally when it needed to score. Automatically Appended Next Post: Addendum: I haven't played for some time though so it may be something they addressed in a later patch.

Could the apparent cheating just be a consequence of the AI being less good at analysing a situation than a real player is? If you've got an AG 2 skeleton in a tackle zone, someone who takes stupid risks is going to make more successful dodge rolls than someone who doesn't. They'll make more failed dodge rolls too, but those aren't always as visible.

It's a little from column A, a little from column B I think. The AI does stupid things but more often than not, they come off. That's what tends to infuriate; the fact that you know it should be failing it's rolls more than it does. And as mentioned, it always seems to pass the crucial dodge rolls or catch rolls just when it needs to score - it happens when the AI is 1-0 down but doesn't happen at 0-0, say.

Several people from the Blood Bowl forums has shown that all the "failing rolls" happens to be an outlier for the perception bias. They've posted up several showings that the random number generator doesn't cheat as its the same one for both the player and even works the same way online.
At lower levels the ai pulls off a crapload of riskier moves, you have the same chance of them afterall generally, but the AI plays more like a player the higher the level, it's just one notices the riskier stuff the AI pulls off, not even noticing how much they alone get away with, just the AI's.
There's also the fact that the bloodbowl game uses a random number generator that's actually random, not stuff like the current systems. Thus as can happen, you can roll sometimes an entire game of one's, or an entire game of sixes.
