I heard rumblings that some tournaments were requiring anyone running a winged Tyrant to use the new model.
The problem is there is zero chance of creating any cover with screening units, plus I don't want to buy another tyrant if my current one (old metal w/converted wings) already has wysiwyg wings.
Has anyone else heard this?

It's a simple question doctor... If the moon were made of spare ribs, would you eat it?

Tournaments can require whatever they want. I doubt it'll be that common though.

If that is a tournament rule, that's probably a tournament I don't want to play in.

I suspect that lots of 'undersized' bugs may get backlashed as official, larger models showed up. They will either disqualify models or ask that Los be treated as if it is a larger model. In a tourney, you can't afford for army A and army B having the same models but army A have the ability to gain cover and army B cannot.
No different than when ork BWs and trukks became invalid for being grossly oversized or drastically undersized.
Question is: ask your TO. Considering nids are not seen as highly competitive, I doubt there will be much complaining compared to the way people get upset over oversized battle wagons.

This issue will come up even with official models. If someone is using a Forgeworld Winged Tyrant, it's about half the height of the new Winged Tyrant. Unless they specifically ban the Forgeworld model, this issue will come up. And I can see people deliberately buying it due to this.

Remember, too, that wings don't count for establishing LoS. You may have to work a little harder for the new HT & his vertical leap, but it shouldn't be that much worse.
Granted, you likely won't be able to do it with Gargoyles.

Considering that it sees GW is puloing out of the tournament business, I'd call bs on this. If you are going to kick me out of a tournament, especially one I probably paid to be i, because I'm not using the "most current version" of a model that is honestly depicted on the field, you can go pound sand, buddy. Its not like people are using Epic minis or smething tyey found in a dollar store bin, they are true hobbyists who converted what they couldn't tet before, so leave it alone!

You would be unlikely to be kicked out HOWEVER most tournaments I've seen have a position of using the most current GW model as the basis for drawing LOS, etc.
So you can use the model, but it is assumed to be the current, bigger, model if questions over LOS come up.

This makes an intresting point as my uncle uses the old tyrant (I mean the old old tyrant, you know the one who looks liike a modern day warrior) and old tyrant guards (the ones with actuall shields). I wonder what they would say about his models.....

Pretre: Are repressors assault vehicles? If they are, I'm gonna need emergency pants.
n0t_u: No, but six can shoot out of it. Other than that it's a Rhino with a Heavy Flamer thrown on if I remember correctly.
Pretre: Thanks! I guess my pants are safe and clean after all.

I would like a tournament with spares of every model so when things like this come up you can use the tournament's replacement.

I'm assuming he also has some old Zoanthropes that stood on legs and are about 3/4 height and 5 times the width of the current one. I like to use mine as a proxy for the Doom of Malan'tai, so there is no confusion between it and my regular zoanthropes.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
