Hi!
I have a wip SM chapter going, and I wanted to see what people thought. it hasn't gotten very far yet, and im still working in background ideas.

Name: Hydras

Colors:
Primary: Red/brown: Vermin Brown + delvan mud + Baal red
Secondary: Bright Green: Goblin Green + Delvan mud + Thakka Green
Trim: Gold: Shining Gold + Delvan Mud + a tiny bit of Baal Red

Brief Background: Used to be alpha legion. Either sent on mission or separated during battle from most of alpha legion (possibly on a harsh desert planet with lotsa beasties!). While separated the alpha legion is contacted by Cabal and turn to chaos. To our knowledge, the alpha legion is not aware of the hydras existence.

Tactics and other stuff:
Few in numbers
Very strong (from so much time and brutal fighting on desert-ey planet)
lots of terminators.
possibly soak their armor in blood before battle to symbolize the pain they have in losing their chapter (not sure about this).

so what if the phsycic energy for the warp or something connected the Hydras to the alpha legion extended the life of the hydras too.
kidndof a cool idea. I guess it wouldn't realy work, but SM chapters do share genetics, so why couldn't they be phsycicly connected?

Well, I don't like the idea of Alpha Legion surviving because of the LotD book. But the turn to chaos is understandable. The soaking in blood probably not a good idea because I have a feeling the blood wont really soak into the armor. However you could make them have a holy ritual of sacrifice or of cutting themselves, by painting scars on the flesh (if any) they have.

CSM live longer because (most of them) live in an area where time is different...

Well IMO it's not really a good idea...
I think it's a fairly bad idea and if you wanted to have loyalist Alpha Legionaries there is an easier way...

Fear tactics was Night Lords
Alpha Legion was sabotage, assassination, sideways thinking, infiltration and the stacking of decks...

Night Lords may be scarier but frankly the Alpha Legion were probably harder to fight...

They weren never chaos. they were separated from the alpha legion pre heresy.


also, what about the Idea that they aren't totally in league with the imperium, just fighting on the same side as them.
like a "rouge" chapter, or they are in legue a secret murky devision of the inquisition.
The inquisition has plenty of dark corners and weird crap.
I guess there is still the time issue...
