Do any of you gamers out there have a loved one with Cystic Fibrosis? Or any other chronic diseases ? I myself have a fiance with Cystic Fibrosis who supports me in my gaming habits and was wondering if anyone else has one who dose the same....She would also like to do something special for the ones who do, so if there are any ideas about this topic that can be apart of gaming please feel free to post. She would like to create an army that stands for cystic fibrosis and its people. ( a cool way to kick ass)

My wife was diagnosed last month with intracranial hypertension, a chronic condition where, for reasons no one is really clear on, her nervous system produces to much cerebro spinal fluid putting excess pressure on her brain and optic nerves. It's chronic, only vaguely managable, and results in crippling headaches and potentionally permanent vision loss. We caught it pretty early, so we don't think there is any serious damage to her eye sight.
Through out the whole ordeal (which included a botched spinal tap during the diagnosing process that resulted in more pain and a two week hospital stay....yay) painting my mini's has been a great comfort to me. It requires so much of my focus to paint the tiny little buggers that I pretty much don't have room for much else in my head as I do it, providing me with several hours of not worrying about neurologist apointments or who's going to watch our daughter while my wife has another attack of head aches while I'm stuck out on patrol etc....

I guess it makes sense that it comes in that variety too. I have the same thing, but hypo, too little. Oddly enough, the side effects are basically the same.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

My wife has Chrohn's Disease. It hasn't really affected my gaming, except that when she's having symptoms we don't often go out, which has increased the amount of time I have to paint and model.

My mother is in a nursing facility after having some strokes. She also suffers from dimentia. The only time I can see her is every other weekend, as I have to work 12 hour days, 12 in a row. This has brought my modeling, painting and gaming to a screeching halt for quite some time now.

My sisters anorexic, this means that she is extremely underweight, thinks she's fat and doesn't like to eat, so I can go to my local Games workshop more often, eg. when she gets really really angry my mum tells me to get out of the house.

My mother has 'Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease' it's a long disease. Usually she has some stress issues too. Since I live in another country now, I start to worry extra for her and every once in a while when I get the chance I visit her and help her out a bit. But when I'm back home I found that painting and being busy with my miniatures helps a lot with focused and constructive thinking, and usually cheers me up

My wife has IBS, Asthma and fibro-myalgia. Has a minor effect on my gaming stuff.

Means I can't model or paint when she's in the house (glue and paint set off her asthma) so I do it all when she's out at work (I'm the stay-at-home house hubby - we have no children and can't).

I just got to spend an entire weekend away gaming in a different city because she wanted some alone time.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

My wife has some form of autoimmune disorder (the current thought is that it's Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, but we've also had diagnoses of Lupus, Sjogrund's, and/or Rheumatoid Arthritis) in additon to Hashimoto's Disorder and an ovarial cyst. Lots of pain, particularly in the joints, and she tends to run out of spoons rather quickly (ask someone you know with Lupus about this one).

It does mean that I paint more often than play, and that I prefer skirmish-style games to the bigger-scale battles that take longer to play, but we get by. Now, if only medicine wasn't so danged expensive.

I, myself, had an older brother with Cystic Fibrosis.

It is good to know your fiance has found someone who will love her.

My thought on an army, maybe something with the theme of "65 roses"?

Maybe an IG army? I like the idea of IG being the army of focus. Both people with CF and the IG army are like "Even though the battle is tough, we fight on".

I missed a game of warhammer the day my mom had a cerebral aneurism, and i can joke about it because she made a full recovery. I've been very lucky with health issues and my family, and i realize it. Keep being awesome, the rest of you.

The conditions managable with meds and dieyt change, so she's adjusting/improving. As for the stress....I spent a big chunk of my early adult hood dodging snipers and IED's for a living, I'd like to think that helped me develop a few mental tools to cope with stress (step one? get a hobby lol)

My mother has bipolar disorder (there is more I'm not willing to share) and I've had to leave games before to take her to the hospital, while being told that I'm an awful son who will be disowned and that her friends are plotting against her. However, when she is in for a long stay and I have to house sit, it lets me have more painting/quiet time.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Just wanted to drop a general message to everyone on here to say that, even though you may not hear it as often as you should, your families appreciate all the love and support that you give them.

I have had arthritis and crohns disease for the last... 15 years. I had no end of trouble at school as noone understood, and I even got fired by first employer for being on sick leave due to a disability.

My family gave me no end of support through every step of every condition, and I'm ashamed to say that I was quite often an ass to them (teenager + bullies + disabilities etc). I appreciated what they did but I often lashed out at them for no reason or whatever. My point here is that I want to try and do some good from that now by saying on behalf of those that can't say it for themselves right at this moment, that you are appreciated for who you are, and what you do for your families.

Hope that's not too weirdy for me to say that, just felt like it was right.

Crohns is one of those super difficult diseases that people don't know about. Sending good vibes your way my friend.

A lot of gamers suffer with serious illnesses. In my local gaming circle, I can think of two different gamers with Crohn's, one with epilepsy, as well as a few blind gamers, a few deaf ones, and one with no legs. I think that might have something to do with the fact that my specific hometown has one of the highest disabled populations in the country, (per capita) but I also think you run into a higher than average number of gamers with disabilities or serious illnesses. It's nice, I think, since I believe it tends to make us more aware and more tolerant.

In a weird way it's very nice to hear. My mother can't always express this to her children. So it's nice to hear from a stranger
why things like that happen, although it's not an excuse it surely is comforting.

To all in this thread, thank you for sharing and keep strong, I wish all the best of luck in life *big hug*

Staying on target.....

Reading this I feel very lucky.

My mum recovered from severe bacterial meningitis when she was pregnant with my brother and despite my father being told that she would most certainly die she fought back and is alive today with only minor brain damage (sever migraines and impaired vision) and my brother was fine too.

My dad has an out of sync heart but has hopefully had that fixed and me and my girlfriend have IBS.

None of this affects my gaming time and I can only pray that my family stay healthy.

My thoughts are with you guys/gals that have to cope with everyday struggles and losses, I hope you all have some form of silver lining.
