Hi there, Dakka Dakka!

I've been browsing the forum of late and decided it was about time I threw my two cents in.

I started wargaming in late '94 after a friend introduced me to HeroQuest. Shortly thereafter I got immersed in the world of GW, regularly buying White Dwarf and the Journal whilst playing 2nd edition 40K with Ultramarines. Happily several friends caught the bug too and battles became a regular thang. I kept Ultramarines as my main army whist I dabbled in Chaos, Tyranids and a brief flirtation with Sisters of Battle (I ended up selling them as I couldn't win a game with them for love nor money).

In our group's time we also indulged in Blood Bowl (very briefly, I played Norse), Gorkamorka (I played Muties), Talisman, Mordheim (I played Witch Hunters), Inquisitor (I took a radical with two henchmen) and Necromunda (where I played a multitude of gangs), which if push came to shove, I'd probably cite as my favourite GW game ever.

As my thread title implies, I've been out of the GW loop now since about 2003; I recall one of my last games being for the Eye of Terror campaign. There are various reason why I bailed, the principal ones being that my three regular opponents and I went in different directions (not least location-wise) and I'd accentuated my interest in music and film.

I've been interested in rejoining the hobby for some time now (I started Imperial Guard and Witch Hunter armies just before I quit the game) and have occasionally ventured into GW stores, picking up a few paints and models here and there for my eventual re-entry.

So here I am, ready to get onboard with 40K and Necro again.

If anyone cares to fill me in on the big GW happenings in the last nine years (I've never been interested in Warhammer BTW), I'd be decidedly appreciative, not least the 411 on the decision to stop mail ordering components and long-forgotten models (I was incredulous when I discovered that).

Anyway, hi!

Welcome back to the hobby. 40k is, apparently, about to go into its 6th edition, so you might want to hold off on buying a rulebook just yet. I have never played necromunda, but have heard that it is a great game. Anyway, welcome and we look forward to your input

Welcome to dakka.
I don't I'm afraid; disconcertingly a lot of my old models seem to have disappeared, including my Orlock gang "DV8" who I proudly managed to get to retirement. Anyway, I always felt that I'd play with new models when I returned, so it's not such a biggie.

Welcome back! So much has changed! Blood Angels and Leman Russ' Dogs are also highly competitive. A lot of Necron and Dark Eldar armies out there at the minute and Dark Angels are almost certainly getting a reboot when 6th edition rolls out. A lot of awesome stuff happening! Oh yeah, GW did away with Rick Priestly, Nigel Stillman, Andy Chambers, Mike McVey and a lot of other cool guys. All of this is just my take on things

HeroQuest,.. i forgot all about that game.
Think MB and GW made that and Battle masters, back in the days.

As nightside has said, alot has changed, you may find the games are alot faster.

Thanks for the info! What happened to those fellas, were they fired?

Hmmm, not sure about fired - can't find much information on it. I ask myself why Rick Priestly, the inventor of Warhammer 40,000 would part ways with the company he helped build though. In a 2006 interview, Andy Chambers is quoted saying this:

"It's good to see miniatures gaming still has new concepts and ideas ready to put into the market place. It's been rather painful to contrast this with the difficulties Games Workshop has found itself in over the last year as several of my friends there have been forced to move on. I can only hope that this creates a realization that an expansive retail organisation and integrated manufacturing capacity is no substitute for originality and diversity in the modern market. Time will tell but I'm sure GW will endure, there's still plenty of cool stuff they can do and some seriously skilled individuals there that can do it."

Well if you wikipedia andy chambers you can see that he has been working on a rather well known recent videogame.

Also it looks a lot like 6th edition will be somewhat of a herohammer edition. Finally, since i don't think anyone said it: flyers are in the official book.

/start bias :And how can you play all those specialist games and not BFG which is clearly superior? /end bias

Hopefully you're still checking this thread dude, despite it being a good few months since you posted on it.

Thanks to Waaagh Gonads, and his desire to increase his post count by ressurecting introduction pages day by day I seem to be introducing myself to people who've been on dakka for months...

Any way, here is an introduction to a Campaign Weekend in Manfield at the end of the year. The link will take you to the thread we are using to co-ordinate the event.

Hopefully you like what you see and will consider joining us!

Heh, that's easy: I never warmed to the models. It's the same reason I never bothered with Epic or Warmaster; anything smaller than 28mm doesn't get my imagination going.
