What is the best way to outfit a Blood angels sanguinary priest in a DOA army?

Just jump pack to keep them cheap or make use of the ws5 and give them a power weapon/lightning claw?

Give them combi- weapons...... What has worked for you?

If I have points left over then I spend them on my priest. Usually a lightning claw. But I would always try to build the list with them a 75 points, as cheap as I can get

Chaos Space Marines, The Skull Guard: 4500pts
Fists of Dorn: 1500pts
Wood Elves, Awakened of Spring: 3425pts

I would say keep them cheap (jump pack/ melta bombs if your have the points) and at the back of the unit because if you kit them up you will try to get them into combat and your opponent will just launch as many attacks as possible at them and if they die your army will slowly fall.
ps whats your list would help to see it.

10 man assault squad with 2 meltas and powerfist and infernus pistol

10 man assualt squad with 2 flamers and power weapon

5 man vanguard veterans with jump packs, melta bomb, 4 power weapons and powerfist

hope that helps

Why the infernus pistols on the pf guys? For an extra 5 points it seems a storm shield would be with it.

I'm of the opinion that any of the CC related upgrades to Sanguinary priests are a complete and total waste. You don't want your priests in close combat, they're a T 4, 3+ model with one wound. They die exactly the same as regular marines, except your opponent can single them out in close combat and kill them all the quicker.

I generally give mine a combi-melta in addition to their jump pack. Sometimes you really need to pop a tank, and that extra melta shot can really help. Plus, that way I'm not wasting points by keeping them at the back of the unit instead of diving them into the melee.

+1 on keeping Priests cheap, and meltabombs if you have leftover points. The combi-weapon is also an interesting choice, as has been said. Not worth to me but I understand the logic behind it.

With your list, if you drop the PWs from the priests, make the Thunderhammer a PF, and lose all the inferus pistols, you can add 3 more bodies to your VV and give them a meltabomb. If my napkin math is correct...

Biggest problem I saw with them is they are a 1 wound IC. People can target them fast and kill them and your out alot of point 1 kp and all the buffs. Best to keep them cheap and as little of a threat as possible.

3 combi meltas on 3 priests seems like a better deal to me than 2 infernus pistols on 2 sergeants or IC.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Decent list but drop the infernus pistols you got good amounts of melta, drop the power weapons on the priests and if your want drop the vangaurd vets there not great and get another sqaud of devs with 4ML i personaly have 3 dev sqauds in my DAO list all with ML and there awsome and you should have some spare points which you could use for maybe a cheap scout objective camping sqaud or more assault marines.

I've run them both ways, cheap and with a weapon.
With the change to IC in CC rules, where the priest is most likely always going to be in b2b with an enemy, I think having a weapon is worth it.
You get a 2nd special weapon along with your sergeant, and he's got 2 base attacks. So at I5 on the charge, you should get more casualties with him having a weapon.
Yes he can be singled out, but T4, 3+, FNP isn't easy for anything but a dedicated CC unit. If your up against them, he is going to die anyway, but he might take some with him.
Plus he is a bigger trheat/target with a weapon, so it might leave the rest of the squad with less attacks against them.

If you are on the charge, it's easy to keep him out of combat guaranteeing the priest will be around for the next round of cc.

Same here, I'll only toos them into combat if there is a reasonable chance they will survive. I'll never put them into combat with a dedicated cc unit

Wargear on Priests is a nice place to spend the last few points, but otherwise the only thing I'd ever consider is a Jump Pack where appropriate.

The whole WS5 thing is a bit of a red herring in my opinion. It's nice, but it amounts to a 33% improvement over a Sergeant at best, and it comes on a very fragile model that is far more important buffing other models.

Put another way, that WS5 Power Weapon kills 1.78 MEQ on the charge. That's worth 28 points. It's worth it if your Priest ends up in BTB a lot, but if he does, you're routinely making a big mistake.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points
