So I was looking at Special character section of the Codex and I noticed that The special chapter tactics for Pedro and Kantor are very similar both give Stubborn with Kantor adding sterngaurd becoming scoring. That got me thinking Lysander and his bolter drill make sterngaurd even better and Kantor makes them scoring, seems like there should be a good list using them both. Here is what I came up with. Do you think it is competative?

HQ
Lysander 200
Kantor 175

Elites
10 man Sterngaurd, 3 combi melta in a drop pod. 300
10 man Sterngaurd, 3 combi melta in a drop pod. 300
Riffleman dread in a drop pod 160

Toops
10 man Tac Flamer missle launcher in a rhino 205
10 man Tac Flamer missle launcher in a rhino 205

Fast
Landspeeder typhoon 90

Heavy
Auto/las pred 120
auto/las pred 120
auto/las pred 120

Total: 1995

I figured I could ad another combi weapon to one of the squads to get to 2k. My thinking on the dread would be to sit him in a bolstered ruin and send his drop pod down empy. Geting the odd number of pods lets me play with how I want the two sterngaurd squads to arrive (either a really tough alpha Strike, or more delayed). Other than that everything sits back and open up rides and the sterngaurd shoot them to death up close.

I think you should get more models in your list as it is kind of everything or nothing.

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

I see no point in having the single land speeder in your army.

It is a really good list other than that, I think it would work really well, though I would give your army more melta in general.

I have the speeder to give more long range firepower against light armour and general killing power, I guess I could sub it for 2 attack bikes if I drop one combi melta from the stngaurd, but that makes me some what nervous about their ability to open up big armour.

If it's anti-tank, I think they would be able to do just as good as the land speeder, if not better, at anti-tank. You could always sacrifice a predator for another land speeder.

The only problem I have with this is that with the drop podded Dread, the autocannons are a moot point as you are not utilizing that 48 inch range....Now say it was a MM/HF Dread or AC/HF then I would understand but as it is I am not understanding...

How are you getting a bolstered ruin?

I love Pedro and plan on pairing him with Sicarius for Ld 10 Stubborn army-wide.

Lysander has the rule that bolsters ruins.

I've run a similar list with reasonable success, you will get a bit overwhelmed against hordes and your sterns will most likely get shredded as soon as they arrive.

I usually include a standard LR with assault termies and Kantor together for some assault goodness.

Otherwise it's a decent list and pretty fluffy too (Fist Force)!

One of the best units in your codex is a Librarian with Avenger and Null zone... I think the utility is worth more than Lysander AND you can then afford a second land speeder

You wont need a pod for your rifleman. Its just a KP your giving away if you do use one.

The point of the drop pod for the riflemen dread is to allow both sterngaurd squads to auto arrive turn 1 if I want them to. I would almost always send the dread drop pod down empty and just normal deploy the riflemen in a ruin if possible. Sure it's an extra kill poin but it will come in later in the game and I can drop it away from the action so it is a low priority target.

That is a good tactic Pony-Law and as a matter of fact, you could add a pod in your list to to get total control on who gets in first turn. That way you can cancel an opponent who has reserved every thing on you and keep the Sternguards for a turn 2+ Bang!

That being said, I believe the Speeder is either not needed or in need of a twin. You could either drop it and use the extra points to buy some gear for you Sternguards (more combi-melta, I usually put a minimum of a 4 per squad) and Tactical/Sternguard sergeants - you get +1 attack from Pedro, take advantage of it.

Or, you could drop a Predator and then get another Speeder and fill your Sternguard squads with the remaining points with combis and/or Heavy flamer(s).

My two cents! Nice army BTW!

Praise the emperor, bless your weapon and pass the ammo!

I think that the best way is to read SM codex detaily, anyway why you want take 2 special char, when you CANT use both chapter tactics together.

Lysanders Special rule is to make your units stubborn, Kantors rule is to make your units stuborn and sterngaurd scoring. So you don't really give anything up from lysander by talso aking kantor. The benifits of Lysanders bolter drill buff sterngaurd hard and he adds a nice CC ability to them as a squad (as does Kantor to anyone he is within 12" of) and you don't have to give that up.
