Hi, Dakka. I was going through both the Badab war books, and would like to use one as an HQ for my Space Marine army. So, I need some help deciding which one would be best for a 1000-2000 point game, I'll be using a Mech army. Thanks!

Personally, I love the Astral Claw MotF (Valthex) that gives Hellfire shot to a chosen infantry unit, it is absolutely devastating when given to a full squad of standard termies.

If you're going heavy mech though, I believe there's an HQ who gives extra armor to all rhinos/razorbacks for free or something like that...

If you are going all mech I would take Tarnus Vale...the Fire Angels character. He isnt much for CC, but he is cheap and gives the whole army Tank Hunters and all dedicated transports Extra Armour for free. Plus he gives any vehicle he rides in Tank Hunters.

Alright, he seems like a pretty good choice. How about Braynar'th Ashmantle, of the Salamaders? He seems like a good (but expensive) HQ choice.

Bray'Arth is pure awesome concentrate! Nearly impossible to kill in CC, and still resilient while getting shot at, slap him in a Lucius pod, drop him next to an MC or large squad of genestealers (my personnal favorite) and watch the carnage unfold while they are utterly helpless (insert favorite evil laugh here)

Thanks for the opinion! Some people just think he's a pushover for his points cost. Do you normally run him?

I've proxied him a bunch of times (I don't have the $$$ to spend on FW units unfortunately) and his rules are absolutely great, totally worth the points if you ask me. Awesome in high points game like Apoc or Planetstrike. The only advice with him is to try and keep him in assault (hence the Lucius pod investment). He's only vulnerable when walking around and can be popped with enough LC shots. He's great against hordes where his "flamer" CC attack can do a lotta damage or to tarpit an MC that would normally tear up the rest of your units (I've had great success against tyrannid MCs and C'Tan shards). Great choice for a fluffy Salamander army, I can totally see a Planetstrike batttle with Bray'Arth, Vulkan and a Libby...
