So a pilot took a nap, and when he woke, thought that Venus, was an on coming plane, and did some evasive maneuvers

Ha! That was good procedure. Rather than looking at it for forever, he acted on his training and took evasive maneuvers! Good pilot. I'd feel safe with him in the cockpit.
