Looks nice save for the price point. At $15 per small ship expansion through $30 for Millenium to Slave I sized ships... I think it'd be really hard justifying getting into the game. For $15 you can find old MicroMachines ActionFleet models on eBay (which also retailed at $12-15 originally) that are like 3 to 4 times the size and also prepainted. It's just a value vs. money arguement. These things are small, you could close your hand around the fighter sized models. It's just a case of charge half (or 2/3s) as much, sell five times the amount for me. I'd be a lot better with the whole deal if for $15 I got a pile of cards and two fighters...because it is just mass production from beginning to end. And it's not like everyone doesn't want at least one of each type and a pile of your favorites.

yeah,
$15 includes the equipment/pilot cards for list building and a dial for selecting actions for the mini.

The TIE Advanced Expansion Pack contains one sculpted TIE Advanced miniature, its maneuver dial, all requisite tokens, five upgrade cards, and four ship cards, including two Imperial aces: the aforementioned Darth Vader and the daring Maarek Stele..

Panic...

^^ All mass produced for about $2-3. That TIE Advanced isn't much bigger than a golf ball if at all. And that TIE grey/black paint scheme, so hard to set the machine up to do. Thanks for the supporting pic Panic. It's pretty, definitely, but nothing I've seen so far has taken me off of the fence....besides being an SW fan. Pricepoint bugs for such a small scale. Just sayin'...

A MicroMachines X-Wing is not bigger than one of FFG's X-Wings, much less 3 -4 times larger. Also, the MicroMachines toys were not built to scale with one another and don't have the level of detail that FFG's miniatures do. I'm also not sure why anyone would want to play a wargame with larger fighters than this.

EDIT: It just noticed you're talking about Action Fleet rather than the original MicroMachines. Those things are way to big for gaming IMO.

I was actually thinking of these size ActionFleets (when these came out they too were about $10-$15, complete with paintjobs, packaging, licensing, marketing, little extras). And it was purely to illustrate that for the end cost of producing a piece of plastic you could get more... well plastic. You are correct, I would not like to play a tabletop game with 6 inch vehicles, I had no problem with the scale.

Do you have any evidence for that? And what about development, distribution, marketing, and licensing? Ultimately, no one can say that this game is cheap enough for YOU to play it. But this is not an expensive game compared to any or all of the other facets of table top gaming, except perhaps WotC's cheaply made, out-of-scale, and (IMO at least) poorly designed and supported rules-wise collectible miniatures games. Those were probably marginally cheaper at the level of getting a competitive force together (maybe not even that, in their heyday when secondary markets for rares were at their peak) but you didn't get the quality of complexity of this game.
I have no data on distribution, marketing, or licensing, I was purely speculating on raw material and production after factoring mass production run sizes. I can say that Star Wars products have been marketed by over a hundred companies for the last 35 years, and all of them had to deal with distribution, marketing, and licensing. It's not new ground. I realize FFG has to make so much in sales before they make profit. I simply think it's easier to meet your sales goals if you offer more - get more people off the fence and spending. I have no problems dropping $100 on a game, I was just saying that for that $100 spent, it'd be nice to have 11 mins instead of 7. I'M still in speculation mode, I've voiced my reasons as to why. I'm in no way, shape, or form gaking on the game, the minis, or the ruleset.

( I do actually think it's nice that the models are a uniform scale, I'm a sucker for scale).

@Manchu All the point you bring up are sensible, good points. I don't want to come off cheap because if anyone's shelling out the $200 in my area it’ll end up being me. I have no doubt the rules will be good and to answer your question I would like to play it. I ultimately just scrutinize what I'm getting charged for and right now I'm looking at the game through binoculars as I'd have to be on the road for hours just to get to a demo. And we'll have to leave it at that.

All right. I dropped $100 and got into this game. I guess everything's on pre order from regular retailers? When's it release? So, I got 2 of the box sets, one TIE Advanced, one TIE Fighter, and 3 Y Wings. I wasn't able to get an X Wing expansion, they were out of them. That ought to be good for now.

Thanks to Manchu for showing me that vid a couple of pages back. In lieu of a true demo, it did whet my whistle a bit. Finding stuff on the cheap was what broke it open for me.

I take it FFG has forums of their own supporting this game?

Thanks Coyotius, I think I'm going to get an X Wing and another TIE Advanced. I just got to figure out what else of theirs I wan't to make the free shipping marker. Unlucky, I usually shop them first!!

Do they have any release schedule for any other ships? I saw they had pictures of Slave I and the Millenium Falcon at some con. No release dates on em? I'd really like to see a B-Wing......B's and Y's hold a special place in my heart. And I'm a sucker for stuff being in scale with eachother.

Saw them in my FLGS today. €39,99 for the main boxed set, €14,99 for a single fighter and €9,99 for a pack of dice. I'm going to give these a pass for now..

I'd never pay those prices. Brook, what about discount internet stores?

no details about whether or not falcon has dual pilots yet, guess that will trickle out slowly.

$25.97 for the starter, which is €19.78 a.k.a. half price.

Granted, shipping kills the deal sadly.

Been looking for ya. Looking at shipping for

2x Starter, 2x all four boosters.....

Yeah, it looks like there are plenty of places in the US that are cheap, but when shipping is like $50-$60 USD it tends to even it out

TIE Interceptor™ Expansion Pack

Imperial players can add a lethal new starfighter to their X-Wing squadrons with the TIE Interceptor Expansion Pack. The finest mass-produced starfighter of its time, the TIE interceptor excels at dogfighting thanks to its heightened maneuverability, increased speed, and four wing-mounted laser cannons that easily allow it to outgun its predecessors.

The TIE interceptor brings more to the table, though, than just its armaments. It features six skullful new pilots, including the renowned Imperial ace, Soontir Fel. The starfighter’s “Boost” action affords tremendous tactical freedom, and the pack’s daredevil pilots can wrench maneuvers of the ship its designers at Sienar Fleet Systems may have never imagined. With its detailed miniature, two upgrades, and new pilots, the TIE Interceptor Expansion Pack creates exciting opportunities for all Imperial players.

Now this....this is truly my favorite fighter in the game!!!

When December comes I'm in it for 1 Milf, 1 Slave1, 2 A-Wings, and 3 Interceptors..... fun times.

I've played a couple of times now. It's pretty great. That little box fits all the counters, 10 ships, dice, and rules. It makes travelling with it a dream. The game is fun as hell too. I thank everyone on who helped push me off the fence ***looking at you Manchu*** My friends refuse to handle the XWing for fear of breaking it.....there's some great detail on those ships....I personally like that the nacels on the Y-Wing are hollow, I think that's a great touch as they could have made it a solid piece.

Fun fun fun. Can't wait till the new fighters come out in December!

Lesson learned: Do not buy game stuff without telling your GF, or she might be nice and order some for you, giving you far more awesomeness than you will ever need.

Apparently Hellfury's girlfriend doesn't know what a TIE Advanced or a Y-Wing is...... Women!

^^^Yeah actually if you're in the US and they carry it, CoolStuffInc really does rock the casbah. When I preordered this they didn't have all of the extra X-Wings and TIE Advanced that I wanted so I kept checking their stock. When stock arrived I immediately added the extra pieces I wanted to my original order, but as it turns out my stuff had already left. I called to see what could be done and they offered to ship out the new order USPS First Class (an option not on their website because they like their stuff arriving fast) for about $1.26, in leiu of their normal shipping costs.

I was pretty happy with the entire thing all and all. It makes me wish they carried 40k minis. I gotta work on them about that. I can't image a game store not carrying 40k. Anyways they got my business. But dammit, now I need extra dice!!

It might be worth trying to call them up, get a real person and ask if they carry/you can order stuff not on their website... aka Warmahordes. I say so because they have this tier based sliding discount scale. The more you spend, you go up the tiers, and each tier has a certain discount for singles (they sell CCG, TCG, and Collectible Mini ie heroclix, etc) and a different discount for all their other stuff...in addition to their normal low pricing. The next time I need something (ala Dark Angels in November) I think I might call them and see if they can do it live.

FYI Battlefoam now has an insert for the box. Holds 3 X-wings, 2 Y-wings, 4 TIEs and 2 TIE Advances.

If Battlefoam had chose to lay the ships on their sides they would have had more room for MOAR SHIPS! I'd have done it with all of them except the X-Wing. /critic

Srsly tho. FFG seems to hate you Brits, or at least is having a good laugh with it. It's repayment for the tea tax.

... Out of curiosity, which (if any) games that you were previously interested in or participating in are taking a back seat to X-wing? For me, it's 40k since I didn't (very unexpectedly) like my first full game of 6e and Heavy Gear as their new releases have been sparse for months.
For me it'd probably be Heroclix. They have a similar set up and play time. Both games you can get about 3-4 different games in per night. I can also take X-Wing to RPG nights and play a quick game here or there during breaks or with friends who aren't in the middle of the roleplaying. I've got 11 ships in that little box and it makes a lot of variety. I appreciate the portability of it all.
