Before I post the list I just want to say Hello to DakkaDakka after using this site exclusively for strategy searching and army list concepts I decided to join the community. So Hello to all! This list is not a tournament list and will be used to play a friendly campaign with some friends. Other armies in the campaign include Grey Knights (Most likely Draigowing), Eldar (Mechdar), Ravenguard (Assault Marine heavy) and Orks (Greentide ish). I am looking to build a list that follows the company organization so please stick to including units that would be found in the Deathwing.
Oh yea... the campaign will have a range of points battles but I will use a 2k list for the basis of this post.

Ahh welcome ... i see you like a fluffy Deathwing the only things i would suggest you invest in (not change just add for going up in points) Phobos Landraiders (you need some S9 shooting) Interrogator Chaplain (Put him with a saquad and belail with the banner and let the good times roll) and Hellfire Dreads (TLLC/ML)
Otherwise i admire your list and your princibles.

Excellent ideas I will consider adding such things as soon as I finish building up the original 2k. What is the Phobos Landraider? I had been debating adding an Interrogator with a squad and getting some Hellfire Dreads would be helpful with Tank/MC busting. Thanks for the tips!

Phobos/Godhammer is the standard Land raider.
Ohh and interrogator plus banner plus squad=happy fun time.
also i would consider buying one squad of standard terminator and outfiting them with chainfist its useful to have a few

I like the idea of sticking to DW only units. With that in mind I would gear out your dreds for more of a long range shooting role. You won't always want to DW assault and that makes their drop podding in more isolated. Going down to standard dreds that don't have pods should allow you to squeeze in a 3rd dred. Outfit them with Autocannons or Lascannons, ML arm if you really want them throwing max shots out. You lack mobility so why not bring as much ranged shooting that is durable as needed. This also removes some easy to score kill points in the form of your pods.

3 LRS is great Funnot competitive but fun as your opponent will focus on them and allow your dreads free reign to cause terror. However if you roll objective this kind of list can be limiting as you will be forced to split you raiders
The first list is fine, though i would run one of the AC/ML dreads as AC/CCW/HF to make it 2000 exactly, but i'm pedantic.

I agree with changing up one ML on a dred for a flamer to go even in points. The only time in a friendly game that running over a few points is worth looking the other way is where there isn't a simple fix.
For a fun list the tri-raider is spot on. It will make for fun if not overly complicated games. Best of all since your games are more on the fun side you might not run into armies full of melta and those raiders might just dominate.

Dump the venerable from your Dreds. They are fire-support platforms and should be in cover regardless. While it may be nice to force a reroll on the occasional punch-5 or 6 the points could be better used elsewhere. Use the points to tool up your LRs with Multi-Melta's and Extra Armor.
The LRs are to get your termies into the fight ASAP. If i can stun you that keeps you out of my face for another turn.
You may also want to consider dropping the dreds for Land Speeders. The DA Melta-Missile Speeder is dirt cheap and gives you the option of making a last turn suicide run to contest objectives for the win.

Yea most of the guys I play with don't really research competetive lists and often times end up making lists that sound good on paper but are not very effective. Knowing that no one in our gaming group plays with many AV14 vehicles people trend to not bring anti tank to the table. I know I will be the only one rolling AV14. Although it is a friendly campaign and I prefer fluff lists because well it makes the game more fun I still enjoy winning lol. On that note any particular tactics you guys might employ with these lists? Is foot slogging my best option for the hammernator/dread list? What about the 3 raiders?

I know some people do not like taking the venerable but I have had nothing but success with the Venerable on my dread in the few games I have played these guys (As my army is not complete I do not like using stand ins so I usually play friends others armies until I get it complete)
I have 75 points left over and would be willing to move some things around. I built this list with Draigowing in mind while trying to keep it fluffy. This list does not run with Fast attack choices and I do not want any in it. I have another list that I run that uses Ravenwing with the Deathwing. Everything in this list is pretty much what I own. I am currently looking to expand the army so I am open to making more purchases to round out the list. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I'd consider lascannons for the dreads as the long ranged firepower might stand you in good stead.
then throw extra armor on the dread and a sdtorm bolter on the raider and you are good to go.

Your latest list is pretty good. It is close to what I use.
For Belial I use LC's. On the charge with a standard he gets a riduclous amount of attacks, and if you have LC's you still get to take advantage of his high initiative. Why mitigate that with a I1 weapon. at range, put the low ap shots on the TH/SS's that are with him.
Ven Dreads do great with extra armor. there goes another 30 pts
With 5 Terminators total, and Belial and his squad in the LRC, you will have 4 in reserves for DS-ing. DWA states up to half can deepstrike in, round up. That means two will come in on turn one.
If you take one squad of termies out, you will have 3 in reserves which means two squads will still come in on DWA.
use the extra pts for Int Chpl or another Dread or a Godhammer/phobos Landraider
Also consider Ezekial, I know DA librarians are crap, but his unlimited range Ld10 psychic hood can really shut down a psychic heavy army like Eldar or GKs. and his force weapon is occasionally helpful, his best power though is his special psychic invul save. (only a 11.1% chance at failing, as compared to a 2+ sv is 16.7% failure rate)

Interesting points about Ezekial. I had always thought about running Belial with LCs, My only concern with running him with LCs is if you get hit by say a squad of fire dragons. Since he isn't eternal warrior and most likely will have to make a save there he goes.
I suppose the above case is rare if it did happen. Or just be smart and keep him away from fire dragons lol.
Ok so LC Belial, dropping a terminator squad which is perfect since I currently have 4. I do have a Godhammer sitting on the shelf that could be used.
I am really nervous about taking a DA Librarian lol I feel like the points would be so much better if invested into the other 3 things mentioned however the psychic defense would be beneficial considering I play eldar and GKs on a regular basis.
Decisions Decisions...
Btw i would like to steal this list if your cool with it.

yeah I ran a standard Libby in a 500 pt army against draigowing they really don't seem to carry their points well althought Zeke with his LD 10 might be a lot better.
Everytime i use LC Belial he can work but he is fragile as all get out. i think he is most fun when mixed with a squad with AP BB and an interrogator chaplain
31 re-roll to hit re-roll to wound attacks yes please \

All LC command squad would be pretty nasty. The arms on my guys are magnetized so I will just put together some LC arms for them so I can play test it because that would be pretty vicious only thing I worry about is facing halberd paladins.
Init 6 would not be fun as I probably wouldn't be able to strike back with man considering the 5+invul. That is why I like the TH/SS combo with all the power weapons running around the game.

My solution is to mix & match.
Belial w/ LC, Int Chpl, TH/ SS/ CML, TH/ SS, LC, LC/ STD, LC/Apoth
there everyone is equipped differently = wound allocation to the max
and you have two 3+ invuls and chaplain has a 4+ invul, but don't lose him to a S8 or above shot, he has multiple wounds but no eternal warrior.
Always keep a TH/ SS in a squad just in case
my other squads are opposite of that.
I run them as x2 TH/ SS, TH/ SS/ CML, LC, whatever else you want maybe CF

I would drop the landraider, for several reasons for example: It stops a CML from shooting; it limits the number of models ont he board still further.
Try the slightly expensive preds which work well with deathwing. Else a vindi is a nice mix to the CMLs, it deals with a few threats you may just struggle which is essentially anything that can cope with missiles.

So, keeping with fluff: LRs, DW Termies, and ven Dreads is all you get.
It will work, sorry for all the moron's trying to tell you to take preds, vindis,. . . . who don't understand the want to play a pure DW army. They should read through the post and realized you wanted to keep it fluffy
Deathwing falls short in 4 places, but there are ways to deal with this:
1. Termies are slow. If you don't want to DS everything, then you will need a LRC to get Belial and supersquad into the right combat. If you DS, they will be shot up, I mitigate this by dropping in 2-3 squads turn one. 1st squad mostly TH/SS. then Belial and mostly LC friends behind them for cover and counter assault.
2. Lack of ap2 or 1. two places to get it. PC Dreads or the Godhammer LR. the LRC also has a MM. I find one or two of these options necessary to whittle down enemy termie squads before I go in for assault.
3. Heavy armor tank killing. anything 12 or less, the CML can deal with. but if you have to take on a 13 or 14, either use the LR with 2 TL LC or you have to wait till you are in CC. TH or CF needed for LRs or Monoliths
4. Always outnumbered. Take advantage of wound allocation. make sure every squad has at least 3 differently equipped models. Another way to deal with the outnumbering is to only fight half of your opponents army. deployment/where you deepstrike is most important here. Try to set up where only half of his army will ever be able to attack you. It will even out the numbers a bit.
Hope this helps

Ok so I have been messing with the list... this is what I have done so far to get to 2k and get some more Anti-tank/AP2
- Drop 1 Dreadnought
- Drop Extra Armor on the other dread
- Drop CML from Belial squad and 1 other squad
Dropping those things gives me 265 points exactly with which I can add
-Godhammer Land Raider w/ extra armor
I am thinking since Belial and his squad ride in the LRC and the other can ride in the standard LR they do not need their CML (still not sure about doing this) however this still gives me 2 squads of DS terminators turn 1 that can support each other. I am replacing the PC and 4 CML Shots with 2 TL LC for some more reliable Anti-tank plus the ability to insta-kill a paladin or two. It will also give me another armor 14 vehicle which my opponents GKs will really have a problem dealing with because of only have psyriflemen for long range punch. The extra armor should help me mitigate being stun locked by glancing hits and with PotMS I can still get a shot off.
This will give me two faster moving units with the LRs although it would require me to potentially forgo shooting for a turn it might be worth it to get the assault off in support of some DS units.

Do your group allow forgeworld? If so you have the wonderful Mortis pattern dread at your disposal. Really suits a DW list. A DW list does not really need a dread with CCW since they carry a ton of THs anyway.
That said running pure TH/SS is a good way to lose against anything that throws out alot of wounds. Mix in som LCs and stormbolters (not in the command squad since the banner and FnP makes TH/SS termies much superior to LC termies).
Dont DWA, start everything on the board so that you can shoot all your MLs. Just walk up the board while proceding to blow everything up. If you are facing a static gunline parkinglot then ofc adjust your tactic acordingly but DWA should not be the defult option.
LRs can be iffy, I would take a normal raider if anything, its still useful at range outside of melta range.
Also, dont listen to people who claim that 20pts is a bad investment for the Ven upgrade, it is not. It makes the dread so much more survivable.

I cannot justify not bringing TH/SS against GK Paladins, I will be striking last in combat if I bring anything else to the table anyways. With FnP and a 2+ save storm bolters are reliably going to whittle down the squad enough for me to survive without the 3++ to strike back. The Land raider is being kept for fluffy purposes yes I can see how a Godhammer would be more effective however I cannot have Belial and his command in it and that ruins my fluffyness. We do allow forgeworld as long as it is not apocalypse specific (Stompas, titans etc,) and as long as it not the most insanely overpowered vehicle in the game (Land Raider Achilles) Other than that we allow it so I took two Mortis Dreads with Lascannons and extra armor. Created a squad with Chanfists and TH/SS for vehicle popping like the 2 dreads he runs and potentially the LR he runs. TH/SS to eat AP 2 and 1. How does this list look? Again this list is being created mainly to deal with Draigowing and is meant to be FLUFFY! Against Eldar I will swap out TH/SS for more LCs as I do not have to worry about being beat down by force weapons in hand to hand. The only benefit to having the LCs in the squad would be when facing a lot of shots for wound allocation would give me 4 different combos instead of 3.

OH, I must have missed the part about this being against dragiowing...In that case then yeah, TH& SS all the way
I would also drop one of the Lascannon dreads down to the dual ML dread aswell as drop the EA on them. That will give you enough pts for a second bare bones Mortis dread for a grand total of three dreads.
